They're Back! The Return of Virtual Reflective Supervision/Consultation Groups is Here

Access to reflective supervision/consultation (RSC) remains a challenge for many professionals working with infants, young children and families. At WI-AIMH, we believe reflective practice is not a luxury, it is an essential support for professional well-being, reflective capacity, connection and growth. That's why we're excited to relaunch our Virtual Reflective Supervision/Consultation (VRSC) groups this fall.

Three groups will open for enrollment on July 13 and will launch in September. Participants will meet virtually for two hours each month over the course of a year, creating space for reflection, support and professional belonging alongside colleagues from across Wisconsin.

As part of our commitment to access and equity, WI-AIMH is investing in these groups to help make reflective practice more accessible to Wisconsin's infant and early childhood mental health workforce. Participation is just $120 per year for WI-AIMH members and $180 per year for non-members.

RSC hours will support Endorsement® applications and renewal requirements for applicable categories, but the benefits extend far beyond documentation. Reflective practice strengthens our ability to support children and families while sustaining ourselves and one another in this work.

We hope this is just the beginning. WI-AIMH is committed to expanding access to reflective practice across Wisconsin, and exploring innovative models that can help build a sustainable network of reflective supports for the IECMH workforce in the years ahead.

Stay tuned for more on provider previews, group schedules and registration details!

Voices from the Field:

Meet WI-AIMH Member Allison Oliphant

Allison Oliphant, IMH-E®, is the Parent Educator for the Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County.

What led you to this field? I began my career as an elementary school teacher. When I moved into home visiting with the Birth to 3 Program in 2020, I had the opportunity to complete the UW Capstone Certificate Program and it changed my life, both personally and professionally. I feel passionate about centering infant and maternal mental health in my work with families and within the community.

What is something meaningful you're working on right now? As a Parent Educator with PAT, the work I do with families is always my most meaningful work. Just being present and holding space for what parents are experiencing is so powerful. I am also preparing presentations for other organizations about the challenges of caregiving, focusing on the Protective Factors and the parallel process of supporting parents so they can support their children through many stages of development.

What does being part of WI-AIMH mean to you? I am proud to be a member of WI-AIMH because it helps me stay up to date with best practices in infant mental health, provides professional development opportunities and keeps me connected with other professionals in the field. I also value my Endorsements because they reflect my ongoing commitment to learning, growth and being a voice for babies and their caregivers.

WI-AIMH Celebrates...

Milwaukee Juneteenth Celebration Turns 55!

Did you know that Milwaukee, WI has one of the largest and longest running Juneteenth celebrations in the nation? This year marks its 55th year of celebrating the day (June 19, 1865) Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX to announce that the Civil War had ended, and the existence of the Emancipation Proclamation--a law passed two years earlier (1863) that ended slavery.

Learn more about Juneteenth here!

*WI-AIMH observes the Juneteenth holiday and will be closed, Friday, June 19.

Celebrate with Pride!

June is Pride Month, celebrating the culture, history and people of the LGBTQ+ community.

"The LGBTQ+ rights movement has made tremendous strides over the past few decades and much of the progress in visibility is thanks in part to gay pride parades and marches that have taken place in cities around the world.

The global landscape for LGBTQ+ rights, protections and acceptance varies tremendously by location... more than 70 other countries have laws that allow discrimination or persecution of LGBTQ+ people."

Recognizing Fathers & Men's Health in June

WI-AIMH wishes all of the dads out there a very Happy Father's Day this June 21st!

It's Not Weak to Speak

Men's Health is celebrated in June as a reminder of the importance of check-ups, and that men need self-care too! But NAMI is taking it a bit further with their messaging and support: "There is often a strong focus on men’s physical health — fitness, annual checkups, and heart health — but mental well-being is equally as important because mental health is health!

Just as the body needs care and attention, so does emotional and mental well-being." >> Continue Reading
