Melodies of St. Philip's

The week of June 24th was a memorable one at St. Philip's as the Percussion Ensemble Camp took center stage. This immersive musical experience gave 27 enthusiastic students the opportunity to explore and play a range of percussion instruments, including xylophones, marimba drums, and more.

Led by the expert hands of Mr. Rice, SPPE Director and Instructional Tech Specialist, the camp was a huge success; as our first camp independent of external partnership, we thrived under Mr. Rice's leadership.

Throughout the week, students practiced melodies that spanned the decades and diaspora. From classical pieces to contemporary rhythms, the young musicians honed their skills and developed a deeper appreciation for the art of percussion.

The camp culminated in a captivating performance last Friday, a testament to their week of hard work and the excellent instruction they received.

We'd like to extend a special shout out to the volunteers of the percussion camp whose dedication and expertise created a nurturing and inspiring environment for the students, allowing them to explore their musical potential to the fullest.

UPCOMING EVENTS

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Celebrating Juneteenth

Our students joyfully celebrated Juneteenth by diving into the recent history of the holiday and honoring the legacy of our ancestors. Through engaging lessons, they learned about the significance of Juneteenth and its importance in American history. The celebration continued with creative crafting sessions and a shared lunch, allowing students to express their reflections and appreciation for this pivotal day. It was a meaningful and inspiring experience, that led to a deeper understanding and connection to our shared heritage.

The Links Inc. Day of Service

We want to highlight and thank The Links Inc. for sharing their Day of Service with St. Philip's. Over 150 volunteers came to spend time with our summer camp scholars.

Opening Ceremony was a special celebration of our youth, encouraging them to be bold and curious, affirming their beauty and intelligence and teaching them the importance of giving back. Several women from a span of multiple careers were highlighted because we believe "A child can't be what a child can't see". Scholars had the opportunity to interact with doctors, educators, lawyers, dentists and more!

Throughout the day, students received dental exams courtesy of the Colgate truck and engaged in exciting STEM enrichment activities with the Perot Tech Truck. The activities of the day taught students about dental health and ingenuity. The ceremony was further enriched by a lively performance from the Dallas Black Dance Theater, adding an extra layer of inspiration and joy. The event concluded with a delightful lunch and an ice cream activity, leaving everyone with smiles and cherished memories. Thank you for spending the day with us!
