2027 Stewardship Campaign

The Gratitude and Generosity Team’s formal 2027 Stewardship Campaign - Together We Love, Together We Serve (inspired by Galatians 6: 9-10) - continues through Dedication Sunday, October 25, 2027. Each member (or member family) should have received a campaign letter together with a 2027 pledge card. Additional pledge cards are available in the narthex.

Through October 12, we have received $407,442 toward our 2027 pledge goal of $1,250,000. Confidential pledges may be submitted by mail to FPC-B’s Financial Administrator, Tori Stadler, or electronically through the “Pledge Online” application of the church website’s home page, or by utilizing the QR code below. Those who prefer may present an in-person pledge during worship on Dedication Sunday (October 27).

NOTE: As you begin to consider your calendar year-end giving, keep in mind that you may make gifts through donations of appreciated stock, and for those who qualify, you may utilize your IRA assets to make a Qualified Charitable Contribution (QCD), which might also help satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). You are encouraged to seek advice from your financial planner as you ponder these decisions. We sincerely appreciate your generous commitment to the continuation of God’s work.

Online Giving Update

We have recently been made aware that the QR Code on the e-giving Offering Ritual Card does not work. We are in the process of getting these cards remade. You will notice in this Sunday's bulletin, a QR code has been inserted at the offering time for your online giving convenience. That QR code is below as well.

The church office is just beginning the process of converting our church management software to a new system. The "people" part of this software hopefully will be available soon. (See below) However, the financial part will take some time, and so we are waiting to remake the online giving Offering Ritual cards until that is in place, so that we won't have to do that twice!

Your patience and understanding is appreciated.

The Conversion to Realm Continues!

As noted in previous issues of the e-blast, FPC is converting to a new church management system - Realm. Our account has been converted from the previous system to Realm, and the staff is in the process of learning the system and all the possibilities that it will provide.

This Sunday Tori, Dari, and John will be traveling to Tampa to participate in extensive training at a three-day event. Following that training, we will begin the process of rolling this out to the congregation. We will provide appropriate training opportunities as needed.

Perhaps the biggest upgrade from the previous system is the availability of an app for everyone to have access to their system - with the ability to update profiles, sign up for events, pay and keep up with pledges, and more!

We are excited about the possibilities of this new system and look forward to sharing it with the congregation.

Church Directory Coming soon!

The long-awaited, and greatly desired church pictorial directory is being compiled!

We are trying something new. We will be creating the pictorial directory in-house using the photographic talents of John Johnson and our new Realm database - with much assistance by wonderful office staff. This will be an opportunity to get your photo taken and update your personal information in the Realm database. This will allow us to have an updated printed directory as well as an updated online directory with only having to have one photo taken!

Please do your part by coming to the church to get your photograph taken! John Johnson will be taking photos on Sundays October 25, November 15 and November 22 before and after worship. He will be set up in the Witherspoon Room. Use the link below or scan the QR code on the graphic to make your appointment.

PW Memorial Service and Life Membership Ceremony - Monday, October 26, 2026

Everyone is invited to join us at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary for this heartfelt service to recognize the 14 women who have passed in the last year. Their families have been invited, and Rev. Dari Rowen will offer scripture and comforting words. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.

Also our Presbyterian Women will recognize two of their own with the PW Honorary Life Membership awards. The recipients, who are nominated because of the many ways they have served in the Presbyterian Church, have no idea, and it's always fun to look around and guess who will be named!

Following the service, everyone will gather in the Witherspoon Room for a potluck supper. Please bring a dish to share - you can even drop off your dish at the CDC entrance and then park your car.

We hope to see many of you for this meaningful service, delicious dinner and fun fellowship!

Taize Worship Opportunity

In following our mission statement, the youth are exploring different worship styles to deepen their understanding of what worship can look like. For the month of November, you are invited to join the youth group in an evening of Taizé worship.

Taizé is a monastic community in France with a distinct worship style. People around the world come to Taizé for the simplicity of living, connection with other spiritual seekers, and intense periods of prayer and devotion. Services occur three times a day, led by the brothers, denoted by simple meditative chants in a variety of languages and a period of silent prayer. Led by Eleanor Hill, church intern and youth advisor, we will be having our own Taizé service in the chapel on November 1st at 5 PM.

More information can be found about the community here, https://www.taize.fr/en/. For questions about the service, please email youth@fpcburlington.org.

Mission Yearbook: Minute for Mission: World Food Day

World Food Day is observed every year on Oct. 16. This year’s theme, “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow,” asks us to look at how forward-thinking solutions can work alongside traditional knowledge to feed people and protect the planet. On Zapatera Island in Nicaragua, a group of families is showing that innovation doesn’t always require complex technology. Sometimes, it means finding new ways to harness the sun, the sea, and the resources already around them to build a more resilient future.

Zapatera Island, located in the municipality of Granada, faces unique challenges. Reachable only by small wooden boats built by residents, the island suffers from relative isolation. This geographic barrier limits access to government support and broader markets, leaving many families in poverty, suffering from poor nutrition. Yet, the island possesses a wealth of resources: fertile soil, freshwater, forests, abundant fish and plenty of sunlight

The Asociación Fénix (Asofenix), a Nicaraguan nongovernmental organization, specializing in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, has worked for over two decades to improve living conditions in rural areas. Their track record includes installing solar-powered water systems, small hydroelectric plants and more than 500 clean wood-burning stoves across 15 communities. As a partner of the Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP), Asofenix brings both technical expertise and a deep commitment to community-led development.
