Public Service Announcement: Temporary Parking Changes
McMahon Wintonbury Library is open! The parking lot is currently closed for exterior renovations and is expected to remain closed until the end of the month. Patrons may park at the Blue Hills Fire Department lot across the street during this time. We thank the Blue Hills Fire Department for their generosity and partnership as we complete this final phase of the project.
The Prosser Library parking garage is temporarily closed to vehicle and foot traffic. An oversized vehicle damaged the parking garage ceiling, and Public Works is working on repairs. At this time, we do not know when access to the parking garage will be restored. Handicap-accessible parking is available in front of Prosser Library along Tunxis Avenue, as well as in designated spots in the parking lot at the base of the bridge.
| | Welcome to the Library, Teens! | | |
Welcome back to school and TAG (Teen Advisory Group) season! We are excited to continue TAG meetings, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and look forward to hosting special guests this fall to discuss health and wellness and financial fitness. Why TAG? In addition to eating pizza and discussing how to improve teen services in Bloomfield, all teens earn volunteer credit, go home with free books, and develop leadership skills. Open to those in grades 7-12.
With the various programs open to teens at BPL, you're sure to find others that are fun and fit your interests. Take a look at our calendar and register below. We hope to see YOU at BPL!
| | Let's Plant Together! Join the BPL youth librarians and the No Child Left Inside® Program (CT DEEP State Parks) for storytime and activities that will immerse young children in the delightful world of plants. We will spend time together sorting and planting seeds. We will have child-sized tools, soil, seeds, and pots for all to use and take home. Best for ages 2–5, but all ages welcome! | | | Join us for a free educational program presented by the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Program Director, Holly Seymour. Learn about Parkinson’s disease and APDA’s free resources for those living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Lunch is sponsored by Bloomfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, a National Health Care Associates affiliate. For Adults. | | | BPL is partnering with Interval House for a teen series about domestic violence prevention. Teens will learn what Teen Dating Violence is: the facts, types of abuse, healthy and unhealthy relationships, and ways to access support and resources for themselves or a friend who may be experiencing abuse. We will consider example situations and collectively think through healthy ways to navigate personal boundaries and challenging relationships. For ages 12 to 19. | | | Barbara Newhart, aka Kimberly Peterson, is a lawyer who draws on her experience in family law to provide inspiration for her novels. As an author, she writes romantic mystery novels and legal thrillers filled with danger, humor, romance, and family. Join us to hear Barbara discuss her latest novel, Love & the Divorce Lawyer. For Adults. | | | Borderland: The Line Within (2024) attempts to illustrate that the U.S. border is not just a geographic location at the edge of Mexico. The border is everywhere. It lies within every undocumented immigrant family, with the threat that at any moment they can be captured, incarcerated, deported, and their lives destroyed. This documentary not only exposes the profitable business of immigration and its human cost, but also weaves together the stories of immigrant heroes resisting and showing a way forward. Runtime: 1hr, 50m. For Adults. | | | The Joe Carter Brazilian Jazz Duo, featuring Joe Carter on guitar and David Finck on bass, celebrates the music of Brazil - samba, bossa nova, choro, baiao and more. These styles are based on a blend of African, Indigenous, and European folk and dance rhythms. Featuring songs by some of Brazil’s greatest classical composers, the duo uses their jazz backgrounds to add improvisation to the tunes, creating a sound that blends the best music from both sides of the equator. For All Ages. | | | |
