It's Not About The Religion,

It's About The Relationship!

See you this Sunday!

THE MID-WEEK BUZZ

Happy Thursday, Church!

I hope you are having a great week. Over the past three plus years, I have been blessed to work with an amazing ministry partner. Those who were in worship on Sunday, heard Brandon’s exciting news.  Beginning the second week of November, Brandon will begin serving as the designated pastor at Kensington United Church of Christ, alongside his amazing spouse Kendra. This, of course, will put music back on my plate for a bit, but with the amazing work Brandon did with the band and the signers, I know we will be able to pick right up!  The great thing … Worship will continue to happen!  Praise God.

We are on the final stretch towards Saturday’s Chili Cook-off.  This is always such a relaxed, fun time together.  I am so grateful to everyone who is making this event a reality. I hope to see everyone around 4:30. Your pastor (that would be me) is making “award-winning” chili, and promises that he will not, as he has done in years past, cheat. Rumor has it that the pastor’s spouse (that would be Freddie) will be sharing several different varieties of cornbread.  You do not want to miss this opportunity for family fun.

Sunday morning, we will conclude our Back to the Basics sermon series.  I hope that the past 7 weeks have been fruitful for your spiritual life. Our wrap-up passage will be Colossians 2:12-15.

As you read through this short passage, before Sunday, you will sense where we are headed.  I love being your pastor!

Holding you close and lifting you high!

Pastor Greg

Music Ministry

This will be my last buzz article. If you didn’t hear the announcement on Sunday, my last worship service with you all will be this Sunday, October 25 as I transition to being the Bridge minister at Kensington Community Church, United Church of Christ, one of our sister churches just down the 15 freeway.

It is a been a privilege to serve you in worship and preaching these past 3+ years. Even more it has been a privilege to worship together, to get to know you, to share life’s joys and sorrows together. A bond like we have is not easily broken and I know our paths will continue to cross in various ways in these next years. We will see all that God has in store for both Poway and Kensington. While I have sadness, I also have a lot of hope (as Greg talked about Sunday) for this next season for both communities.

Love you all.

Pastor Brandon

Coyote Bush | Samaall Kwsiyaay

Where would you scurry for safety if you were in the middle of a field and only 6 inches tall? Perhaps to a scurry zone beneath a coyote bush!

A scurry zone is the halo of bare soil that is often found beneath and around shrubs. Rabbits, rodents, and birds will venture out to neighboring grasslands to forage and then hurry back beneath the bush when a predator is nearby. Coyote bush is an important provider of scurry zones in California.

These small creatures have a cooperative relationship with the plants that shelter them. While the shrub provides the animal a safe hiding place, the little animals help the shrub to thrive, as well. They munch on any little sprouts nearby that could grow up to compete with the shrub for light, soil, and nutrients. They also help spread the shrubs seeds in the surrounding area.

It’s Chili Cook-off time!!

Sat, Oct 24: 4:30

Please feel free to bring a delish chili in a crockpot or a topping or two! If you could also bring a ladle that would be great. It will be fun to have meat, veggie, mild, spicy, beans or no beans! There are no rules for the CCP Chili Cook Off other than to eat and have some fun!

Please bring your friends, family, neighbors and anyone who might like to learn more about our wonderful church. We’ll have prizes for the top 3 chilis and it will definitely be a fun evening.

Any questions please see Mary Jo Longo or Lynn Amabile.

Border Church

On Sunday November 8th at 12pm, we will carpool from our church to Border Church, which meets outdoors at 1:30pm until about 2:30pm. “Every Sunday, friends from San Diego, Tijuana, and around the world gather for our weekly celebration of binational communion at Friendship Park, the historic meeting place on the US-Mexico border. Somehow, the border wall mysteriously becomes a table for communion, where all are welcome.”

Our Basket of Hope for October will benefit the Foundation for Women Warriors, a century old nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and empowering the women veteran community. They exist to serve women veterans and their children so that their next mission is clear and continues to impact the world. The Foundation of Women Warriors collect and distribute cost reducing critical essentials for veteran families facing financial difficulty.

We selected the following items from their Amazon Baby Shower Wish List. Multiples of each item would be greatly appreciated. Only new items can be accepted. Rather than shipping directly to their Vista office, we ask that you bring your unwrapped gifts to our Basket of Hope and we will deliver these items the first week of November. Books and More

On Tuesday, October 13, Books and More started reading The President Is Missing, written by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. This is the thriller of the decade, confronting the darkest threats that face the world today, with the highest stakes conceivable. Set in real time, over the course of three days, The President Is Missing is one of the most dramatic thrillers in decades. And it could all really happen. The President Is Missing is Bill Clinton and James Patterson's totally authentic and spellbinding thriller.

Please join this wonderful group of ladies every Tuesday in the Fireside Room at 10 a.m.
