Keeping Connected

Rector's Reflection

Dear Ones of Christ Church,

This weekend, the last before we enter the season of Lent, we will hear the gospel of Matthew’s version of the Transfiguration. I have been praying with poet Malcolm Guite’s reflection and sonnet on the Transfiguration, which also features art from Rebecca Merry.

Click here to engage and pray with Guite’s and Merry’s art and to hear a reading of the sonnet. ...

The Last Sunday after the Epiphany 10:00 AM Bulletin

As we make our way to church this weekend, please be mindful first of safety. If you have concerns about driving or walking in the wintry conditions, please consider worship via livestream.

For those of us attending Sunday worship and other Sunday morning activities, please allow for additional travel and parking time, and please read the following information and guidelines:

  • Because of the amount of snow remaining along our roadways, there is limited street parking available on Grant or Lothrop Streets, and very few spots on Court Street.
  • Please enter the church through the office door, the Lothrop Street sanctuary door (near the lectern), or the upstairs parish hall door.
  • If you are driving and comfortable walking the block up Lothrop street, consider dropping off passengers at the church office door or at the bottom of the driveway on Lothrop Street, and then parking in the public lot at the bottom of Lothrop Street. You will need to walk in the street as the sidewalks on Lothrop are not all cleared.
  • Please only drive one way down our center driveway: enter from Grant Street and drive down to exit on Lothrop Street

Farewell to Alleluia

Choral Evensong

Sunday, February 15 at 5 pm

Followed by a reception

All are welcome!

The association of alleluia with Easter led to the custom of intentionally omitting it from the liturgy during the season of Lent, a kind of verbal fast which has the effect, not of depressing the mood of the liturgy, but of creating a sense of anticipation and even greater joy when the familiar word of praise returns. It is an ancient custom in the Christian Church that a "Farewell to Alleluia" be sung at the close of worship on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. This custom is still widely observed on the last Sunday before Lent. Thus today’s service takes its place in bidding “Farewell to Alleluia.”
