Conference News
Delegates Welcomed to Sydney from Across the Globe

In December 2018, GEMS completed the management of the 7 th International Workshop on Signatures of Man Made Isotope Production (WOSMIP VII) , which was held at the Pullman Sydney Hyde Park Hotel.  The Workshop, funded by the US Department of State and the US Department of Energy, attracted 100 scientists and nuclear physicists from across the globe to this unique forum, where delegates discussed the impact of radioisotopes released from civil and industrial sources, on nuclear explosion monitoring under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

In addition to our event management and registration services, GEMS worked closely with the Australian Department of Home Affairs to ensure international delegates invited to attend were provided with timely advice on applying for the correct visas to ensure they would be granted a visa in time to attend the event.  The event included a welcome reception at Wood and Smoke Bar, a conference dinner held at the Australian Museum and a full day tour of ANSTO’s nuclear facility at Lucas Heights.
Distinction
GEMS Lead the Way with MEA Accreditation

GEMS is now one of only of 2 Professional Conference Organisers within Australia with two staff members certified as Accredited Meetings Managers (AMM) through Meetings Events Australia. This is an achievement of which we are very proud.

In 2018, Michelle Glasson, Director of Marketing and Business Development, underwent the rigorous Meetings Events Australia (MEA) professional review process to become an Accredited Meetings Manager (AMM), alongside Managing Director, Julie McGraw.

MEA is a national, independent not for profit organisation dedicated to servicing the needs of the meetings & events industry and promoting professionalism and excellence in all aspects of meetings and event management.

Being accredited provides both clients and industry suppliers with the assurance that they are dealing with the highest quality event professional who is committed to their role and their client as well as continued professional development.
Venue Spotlight
Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC)

In December 2018 GEMS were invited to the GCCEC to view the Centre and experience a group cooking experience with its head chef.

We were delighted with the flexibility of the function space. While this venue can accommodate large scale international exhibitions and events, it is more of a boutique convention centre that also caters for small to medium size conferencing events.

While many convention centres feel too large and cavernous for these size groups, this venue offers a comfortable and cohesive space for delegates. We were very impressed with the gallery level exhibition space with floor to ceiling windows, showcasing the beautiful surrounds of Broadbeach. You won't lose yourselves in four walls at this venue. With its reasonable pricing that competes well with the surrounding venues, this is definitely one to consider for your next event in the Gold Coast.

Innovate
EventsAir Beacon Technology

As many of our clients know, GEMS use EventsAir event management software in the delivery of all its events. This technology leads the way in the business events industry internationally and provides end to end services for online registration and payment, online abstract/paper submission and review, event budgets, websites and program development. It even offers better than ever event reporting capabilities that allow real-time access to these reports for the client through their very own web portal.

Michelle Glasson from GEMS recently attended the 2018 EventsAir User Conference hosted in Brisbane and was very excited about the new beacon technology that supports Auto Check-in for delegates.

Auto Check-in allows for attendees to arrive at a registration area and either scan a QR Code you have posted on a sign, or have their mobile phone read by a beacon strategically placed in the area. The EventsAIR Attendee App enables attendees to scan QR codes, OR, if they have blue-tooth enabled on their phone, then beacons can be used to read their App on arrival.

Once the QR code has been scanned, or the beacon reads the phone, the attendee receives an Auto Check-In Message and their badge is printed automatically at the registration desk. You can customise the Auto Check-in Message which is sent to their phone and the message can be specific for different registration types.
