Food Safety for Poultry and Rabbit Producers

September 1 & 3, 2026 | 6 - 8pm | Online

New Hampshire producers can sell poultry and rabbits (up to 20,000 whole poultry and 1,000 whole rabbits per calendar year) directly to NH restaurants without USDA inspection. NH producers can also sell rabbits (up to an additional 1,000 whole rabbits) to consumers from their farm, farm stand, or farmers market booth. For producers to legally sell their products in any of these ways, they must complete this initial certification course with UNH Cooperative Extension and recertify after five years.

Cost: $25 per person, with $10 for each additional person from the same farm.

Learn more and register for the 2-day Food Safety for Poultry and Rabbit Producers course

NH 4-H Livestock Auction is back at the Hopkinton Fair, September 7th

10:00 AM Viewing | Noon SALE

Locally grown food from locally raised youth!

The NH 4-H Livestock Auction is looking forward to its return at the Hopkinton Fair on Monday, September 7th. Twenty-four 4-H youth from across NH have been raising market beef, swine, goats, lamb, and new for 2026; broiler chickens and meat rabbits, to fill the freezers of local buyers. The 4-H members who participate in the livestock auction are passionate about raising livestock but also providing high quality food to their communities.

For 2026, 2 beef steers, 19 lambs, 7 goats, and 11 market hogs will be auctioned live. 6 lots of broiler chickens, and 8 lots of meat rabbits will also be available (these lots are sold as a pair, and processed in advance of the auction). All buyers are encouraged to also attend a luncheon in between the show and sale to speak to the 4-H members and Livestock Auction committee members about the animals and the buying process.

Anyone interested in purchasing an animal can complete a request to receive a pass to the fair on the day of the auction to live bid on an animal. Anyone unable to attend in person can place a pre-bid prior to the event.

For questions about the event, contact Hannah Majewski, NH 4-H Animal Science Field Specialist at hannah.majewski@unh.edu.

Join NHFB/NHAITC's Friendly Farmer Program!!!

We know there are educators out there looking to enrich their students with authentic ag experiences, as well as farmers interested in cultivating the next generation farmer. The difficulty is matching educator wishes with farmers, friendly farmers, looking to provide those experiences.

Would you be interested in taking your knowledge and agricultural experience to a classroom? Maybe you'd like to host an onsite visit, share your farm, barn, or market storefront?

The Friendly Farmer program is a way to connect farmers and ag leaders with classrooms and schools to offer authentic ag experiences. Help us grow together!

If you enjoy the outdoors in the Granite State, you are at greater risk of encountering a tick and contracting a tick-borne illness, like Lyme disease. Now there is a way to know quickly if the tick that bit you, a loved one, or your pet has disease-causing pathogens.

Tick testing from the University of New Hampshire is now available to the public through UNH Extension. This service can alert you to the presence of a pathogen in a tick in as little as 3 days. It is information that helps you and your doctor or pet’s veterinarian decide if treatment is needed.
