Here's what Austen said about the experience: "Leadership Mohawk Valley was an amazing experience. Over the course of nine months we visited and toured many businesses and community organizations, while having insightful conversations with some of the community's greatest leaders. We learned a lot about the interesting and inspiring things happening within our very own community. There is a lot to be proud of! At the end of the program my classmates and I completed our class project at the Root Farm. Working with some of the local organizations we met along the way, we organized a large volunteer group that came together to build two bridges, eight benches and complete some necessary trail cleanup and gardening for the Root Farm. It was a great experience that I highly recommend and can't wait to continue as the class rep of ‘22."

Here's what Tiffany said about her experience: "The Neighborhoods Rising program is a six month course designed to encourage growth and leadership in minority populations. The program provided opportunities to connect with community leaders, sharpen leadership skills and expand professional relationships. It was exciting to see community leaders taking a genuine interest in students personally and professionally. The program focused on understanding how to engage and advocate for productive solutions and make positive difference in the community. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the class of 2022, and look forward to seeing everyone’s personal and professional growth. Be a change maker! Special Thanks to Mr, VanWagoner, Kristen Skobla and Salina Billins for putting together a phenomenal program."

Out-Of-School Youth Success Stories
Madison County:
"My co-worker Sarah and I had met with 4 out of school youths who were looking to obtain their GED as they did not complete high school. These boys had been meeting with Literacy Outreach for Madison County weekly preparing to get their GED. While talking to these young boys (18-20 yrs) they also stated how they would like to find full time employment, each of them had never worked except for small odd jobs for family/friends. We reached out to a local company, Ralston Supply Co in Canastota who was eagerly looking for help, and were able to set each of the boys up with a Work Experience for 4 weeks through Madison County at Ralston Supply. Upon completion of their work experience each of the boys were hired on directly to Ralston Supply where they continue to work today."

By recognizing the full complexion of our community, we can ensure our efforts to achieve disability inclusion are, in fact, truly inclusive.”
