The Cameron Parish coastline region is the site of the new Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, which is now under construction and should be completed by the beginning of 2024.
The new 11,000 square foot headquarters will be designed and built by Angelle Architects with a $9 million project budget. The Mississippi and Georgia Divisions of Tindall are providing the precast components for the new headquarter structure which include architectural panels with wildlife reliefs and structural precast components.

Recycle, reuse, repurpose…it’s a concept that has become commonplace in everyday life. Breathing new life into something that might otherwise have been discarded or set aside is a result of pausing for a moment to take a closer look at the potential value that might exist in something.
Whether the recycling/reusing/repurposing comes in the form of an old item from a thrift store getting a second chance or an old idea/concept getting a second look, the result can be pretty satisfying. In the cyclical nature of business, we see common problems and issues crop up over and over again. There may be some type of unique twist on the issue, but the fundamental concern is often something that has been experienced before.
It’s not always necessary to create a new and innovative solution to a problem. Sometimes a simple tweak to a “vintage” solution is all that is needed. Having networks and resources that share information provides us with places to source solutions to our problems without having to come up with fresh answers on our own. PCI and the vast knowledge base it holds is such a place to turn to for solutions. When a perplexing situation presents itself, turn to PCI for a solution that you can recycle/reuse/repurpose. This is just one of the many ways PCI membership adds value to your business.
Happy Holidays!

At the end of September, Alabama AIA held its annual Excellence in Architecture conference at the beautiful Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, AL. One highlight of the conference was Robert Taylor's presentation on the use of Ultra High-Performance Concrete in designing and making precast architectural components. The amount of interest and questions from the crowd about the applicability of this material was quite surprising.
As engineers, the industry takes an interest in new, stronger technologies because of the structural implications but for architects to see the value in such material is really telling. Our hope is to keep the technology moving forward. It is satisfying to see the steady growth of these conferences over the last few years. It shows the value these types of functions can provide the attendees.

In a quest to keep things new and fresh, PCI held their Committee Days event in Tampa, Fl at the JW Marriott hotel downtown. Committee Days is typically held in Chicago. Garnering well over 600 attendees, this years Committee Days featured a few “highlighted” events.
First was the PCI Foundation fundraiser, complete with A.J. Ishikawa’s (Splice Sleeve) band rocking and rolling the place, as well as guest appearances by JVI’s own KISS band. Not to be outdone, GCP Applied Technologie’s Brian Miller gave the crowd a surprise performance. It looked like the 1980’s all over again!
The second highlight was the farewell speech given by PCI Gulf South’s very own Matt DeVoss of Jackson Precast, the immediate Past Chairman of the Board. Since Matt will not be with us in Denver in February, the Board thought it was appropriate to give him a few moments to say some parting words. We will miss Matt on the Board but it has been a long and productive journey.
Next stop, Denver Colorado, February 6th - 9th 2024.

PCI Gulf South Winter Meeting
|
|
PCI Gulf South held its annual Winter Meeting and Golf outing on November 7th and 8th. We kicked off with the Annual Robert Molcany Memorial golf event held at the Preserve Golf course in Vancleave, MS.
Congratulations to Jody Singletary, Dan Thibodeau, Patrick Gregoire, and Brian Federico for winning the tournament. A $ 5,000 donation went to the PCI Foundation to help with the regional studio at Auburn University. We would like to thank the many sponsors of the golf event: Omniduct, Splice Sleeve, Afinitas, Wire Mesh Corp, nVent Lenton, Sika, GCP Applied Tech, Holcim, Skako, and Architectural Polymers. If it wasn't for their generosity, none of this would be possible.
A special thanks to Steve Kegley with Endicott Brick for the Closest to the Hole and Longest Drive awards. This year, Gulf South’s meeting was held at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi and featured eight presentations from Associate members. Many of them are new members to our organization. It was great to see all of the new faces as well as some old friends.
We hope to see everyone in April at the Spring meeting in Lake Charles, LA.

Alexis Gregory Wins the
PCI Foundation Community Engagement Award
|
|
Mississippi State Architectural Professor Alexis Gregory won the 2023 PCI Foundation Community Engagement Award.
To be eligible for this award, a professor must have worked with one or more community or constituent groups during the previous school year on or off campus to provide community engagement opportunities for students. The university and community will have collaborated to exchange knowledge, should have displayed significant effort, made a meaningful contribution, and have supported students and the community.
Alexis received this award for her studio program's involvement with the Starkville, MS Habitat for Humanity. Students worked very closely with Habitat for Humanity and PCI Gulf South producers to develop a prototype house that could be manufactured and installed on a wide scale. From an observer's perspective, the innovation and “out of the box” thinking was truly amazing to behold.
Alexis will receive her award at PCI’s annual Convention being held next year in Denver, Colorado. Congratulations Alexis on this well deserved award!
