LaSalle’s Ulster County School-Based Mental Health Program Secures 5-Year Renewal

Ulster County School-Basked Mental Health Program

In January 2023, LaSalle School launched the Ulster School-Based Mental Health Program to deliver comprehensive clinical and case management services to students referred by every middle school in Ulster County. Each participating school district may refer up to 10 students into the program, with all referrals coming directly from the districts.

Services are tailored to meet the unique needs of youth and their families and are delivered in the home, school, or community. This flexible model eliminates many of the traditional barriers to accessing mental health care. The program currently supports up to 100 students across the county and staffed by a team of ten—five therapists and five case managers.

Due to the program’s success and the positive outcomes demonstrated over the past several years, the Ulster School-Based Mental Health Program was recently renewed by the Ulster County Department of Mental Health. Following the submission of a renewal proposal, LaSalle School was awarded a new five-year contract. As part of the upcoming contract period, beginning in January 2026, the program will expand its staffing model to include a clinical supervisor to provide day-to-day oversight and enhance program supervision.

Honoring Our Graduates!

On June 24, we proudly celebrated the graduation of four hardworking young men who overcame significant obstacles to reach this milestone. Each graduate’s journey was marked by determination and perseverance. Two graduates will continue their education at Schenectady County Community College, while another will attend Mount Saint Mary College in downstate NY.

Their achievements are a testament to the resilience, support, and dedication that define the LaSalle community, and we couldn’t be prouder of the futures they will build.

New Therapeutic Journaling Program

Begins at LaSalle

This summer, our former campus library was transformed into a welcoming space where words can heal. Thanks to the generosity of the Touhey Foundation, the vision of community advocate Alice Green, and the expertise of the NYS Writers Institute at UAlbany, we launched our new therapeutic journaling program.

Inspired by Dr. Green’s belief in the power of expressive writing, the program is designed to help young people process trauma, explore alternatives to violence, and find healthier ways to cope with life’s challenges. In this safe, creative environment, students are discovering their voices, putting thoughts and feelings onto paper as a step toward healing and positive change.
