Six weeks can tell you a lot about what is possible

This summer, twelve young adults spent six weeks working, learning, and exploring environmental careers through MNC’s Environmental Corps.

They worked across San Francisco, from Alemany Farm and Lake Merced to Holly Park and Alcatraz.

They toured Recology, learned alongside San Francisco Environment, participated in workshops, practiced interviewing, met professionals working in the field and gained firsthand experience caring for the city they call home. But the Corps was designed to offer more than a summer job. It gave young people ages 18 to 24 a paid opportunity to build professional skills, explore careers they may not have considered before, and begin imagining where those experiences could lead.

Built Through Partnership

The 2026 MNC Environmental Corps was made possible through the generous support of Tipping Point Community, together with MNC’s investment in the program. We are especially grateful to Nick Arevalo, Capacity Building Director at Tipping Point Community, for his partnership, encouragement and commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people.

We also thank the organizations, professionals, MNC staff, and community partners who opened their workplaces, shared their expertise, and helped make these six weeks an experience our Corps members could carry forward.

Our Numbers

Before the first day of work, MNC had already learned something important about the need for this kind of opportunity.

Those numbers change the question. It is no longer simply, Does this program work? The question is: How much more could be possible if the opportunity could grow? For young adults beginning to find their place in the workforce, access matters. A first paid experience can lead to a reference. A conversation with a professional can introduce a career that someone did not know existed. A successful interview can build confidence for the next one. Six weeks can become a starting point.

Looking Ahead

MNC is now looking ahead to what it could mean to grow this opportunity, reach more young people, deepen career pathways and create stronger connections between environmental stewardship and the workforce of the future. If you believe in creating more opportunities for San Francisco’s young people, we invite you to be part of what comes next.
