The Value of Gathering

What does meal prepping have to do with our spiritual lives? Bishop Hughes draws a connection between preparing lunch for a busy day and preparing our hearts through scripture and prayer, reminding us that the words of faith we carry with us can sustain us in anxious and uncertain times.

All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day

As we enter the month of November, our liturgical calendar brings us two major, back-to-back events that illustrate the fullness of the Communion of Saints: All Saints’ Day on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2. Rooted in the practices of the earliest Christians who honored the heroic witnesses of the faith, All Saints’ Day is a solemnity where the universal Church celebrates all who have gained the reward of heaven, both known and unknown. Following immediately after, All Souls’s Day (instituted by St. Odilo in the 11th century) calls us to remember and pray for the faithful departed awaiting the joys of heaven. Together, these days unite those of us still living with our brothers and sisters in heaven and in purgatory, reminding us that love and faith transcend death.

We invite you to bring photos of your departed loved ones (can be 8 1/2 x 11) to display by the Stations of the Cross in our church. Let us join our hearts in prayer this month, trusting in God’s mercy.
