The

Gregorian

Chant

Hello God’s Deeply Beloveds!

It’s nearly (or possibly altogether?) cliche for so many Episcopalians to love the work of some of our more famous, Episcopalians of the current day…Brene Brown (viral TED Talks social worker and author), writer Cole Arthur Riley (author of the book, Black Liturgies, and the Instagram account of the same name), and the late great Mary Oliver, prolific poet. Cliche or not, I do it anyway. I may not share the lovely surprise of finding blessings in the outdoors as often as Mary Oliver, but I do have so many moments when blessings suddenly find me. And so often it’s in seeing and hearing the face and voice of God in you, at St. Gregory the Great. So, thank you for reminding me that

“Sometimes I need only to stand wherever I am to be blessed.”

It was early

by Mary Oliver

It was early, which has always been my hour to begin looking at the world

and of course, even in the darkness, to begin listening into it,

especially under the pines where the owl lives and sometimes calls out

as I walk by, as he did on this morning. So many gifts!

What do they mean?  In the marshes where the pink light was just arriving

the mink with his bristle tail was stalking the soft-eared mice,

and in the pines the cones were heavy, each one ordained to open.

Sometimes I need only to stand wherever I am to be blessed.

Little mink, let me watch you.

Little mice, run and run.

Dear pine cone, let me hold you as you open.

Blessings and so much love,

Mo. Nikki

Vestry Nominations

Attention Parishioners! It’s time to nominate candidates for next year’s vestry. We have 4 positions opening up! If you know someone who is at least 18 years old and a communicant in good standing whom you think would make a good vestry member, please pass on their name to anyone on the vestry nominating committee: Paul Welch, Karen Brill, or Vicky Tavernier. You can also email your nomination to Paul Welch. Nominations will remain open until the end of October. Thank you for helping us keep St. Gregory’s a great place to worship!

Looking for new Parish Life and Ceilidh leadership

Dear fellow Gregorians,

Since Jeff took on the role of Youth Minister this summer, our family's calendar has been lovingly filled through year's end and beyond with Youth Sunday School, EYC, Confirmation, and Blindspot activities, on top of both of our demanding full-time jobs. With that in mind, I am stepping down from my roles as head of the Parish Life Committee and facilitator of the Ceilidh service so that our family can find a sustainable rhythm with our full presence for the community and each other.

It's been a joy to serve our community in these roles, and we are so thankful for these two ministries and the people that support them. We're now looking for someone to take on each of these roles:

    •    Head of the Parish Life Committee (perhaps 2 co-chairs)

    •    Leader of Ceilidh Service

Please note that the Ceilidh service will be on hiatus until a new facilitator is found and will not happen in October.

If you're interested in either role, or just want to learn more about what they involve, please reach out to me at lillianbh@gmail.com.

With love and gratitude,

Lillian Ballance ☮️
