A Hopeful Call to Stewardship
by Zola Powers
Dear Friends,
Oh, no! It’s Stewardship time again! (I can hear you…)
I don’t need to remind you of the challenges we face: salaries, maintenance, slow growth, diminishing membership, etc.
These are a few of the many reasons to pledge to Holy Comforter:
-
“All things come of Thee…”
-
our cultural commitment to the tithe
-
maintenance of the building
- supporting a good pastor
All of these are good reasons. But what is most important to me is the Outreach this makes possible.
Our Vestry has made a commitment to use whatever resources we have to continue and extend our service to others. Our commitment to support Holy Comforter with our time and talent/money stretches our reach beyond ourselves to our neighbors, near and far. I believe this is the Church’s mission.
When I came to Holy Comforter, in addition to the Stewardship Drive, we had to hold the Cake-n-cue fund drive to pay the mortgage and pay the preacher! We’ve come a long way since then, and yet in some ways we are as we were in 1958; a small congregation with challenges.
Dig deep, my friends! Join me in a pledge to continue our good work!

All Saints' Day
Remembering the Faithful
All Saints Day is one of the seven Principal Feasts of the Church. It celebrates the whole body of Christ, those who have gone before us in faith and those still living among us. It reminds us that the love of God gathers us all together, across time and beyond death.
All Saints' Day points us directly to the triumph of Christ over the grave, reminding us that death is swallowed up in victory. Our worship hangings are white, and the Paschal Candle is lit, pointing us toward new hope. The comfort of this day is the reminder that all people, living or dead, rest in the hands of God.
It is only a coincidence that All Saints' Day arrives at the threshold of our holiday season, but it is a grace-filled one. Just as the holidays remind us of those we miss, this holy day reminds us of our deeper continued connection with the communion of saints. Remember this connection this Sunday, Nov. 1. Bring a treasured photograph for our remembrance table. Together, we will celebrate the Eucharist in thanksgiving for their lives and faith. May their light continue to lead our way home.
