Press Release
2026 Westport Citizens’ Police Academy
The Westport Police Department is accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens’ Police Academy, which will begin on September 8, 2026.
The Citizens’ Police Academy is a community outreach program designed to provide residents with a comprehensive look at the operations, responsibilities, and challenges of modern law enforcement. Through classroom instruction, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and direct interaction with department personnel, participants will gain a greater understanding of the services provided by the Westport Police Department and the role policing plays within the criminal justice system.
The nine-week program offers participants an inside look at the department’s divisions and specialized units, including patrol operations, criminal investigations, emergency response, and other law enforcement functions. Academy instructors include experienced Westport Police officers, attorneys from Stamford Superior Court, and members of Westport Emergency Medical Services. Participants will also have the opportunity to complete a patrol ride-along and receive Stop the Bleed training.
Classes will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Tuesdays beginning September 8 through October 27 and then on November 10.
The academy is open to Westport residents who are 21 years of age or older. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.
Applications are available at Westport Police Headquarters, 50 Jesup Road. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, August 21, 2026, and may be returned to police headquarters to the attention of Captain Jillian Cabana or emailed to jcabana@westportct.gov. Click here for the application.
