Course Description: This unique course will present experts from five different disciplines of our criminal justice system who will answer questions in a conversational format with Professor Panneton. Representatives from the police, the D.A. and public defender offices, the judiciary and corrections will share how their decades of experience shaped their perspectives on how we handle crime in our communities. Their opinions will also serve to promote provocative class discussion.

We've invited some exceptional guest speakers who have agreed to participate in this conversational style class! These speakers are:

AnneMarie Schubert--former District Attorney of Sacramento County

Karen Flynn--former Assistant Chief Public Defender of Sacramento County

Geoffrey Goodman--former Sacramento Superior Court Judge in Criminal Division

Rich Ertola--former Chief Federal Probation Officer in Eastern District of California

Tim Croisdale--Division Chair of Criminal Justice Program at Sacramento State

Instructor Biography

John Panneton

John Panneton is a Graduate of Boston College, 1971, A.B. Magna Cum Laude and Graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Law, 1975, J.D. John was a Federal Prosecutor for 16 years with the U.S. Department of Justice where he was involved in a wide variety of cases on both the East and West coasts. He was a Criminal Defense attorney from 1991 to 2015 and taught criminal justice courses at CSUS from 2006 through 2017 (full-time faculty) and at the University of California, Davis from 2001-2003 (adjunct).
