We announced a new
emergency microenterprise recovery
program
this week, which should help the smallest businesses in our city. This grant will aid in the economic recovery of microenterprises negatively impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Microenterprises contribute greatly to the vitality of our neighborhoods, support families, create jobs, and are essential to the economic health of our city.
The grant application period begins Monday, May 11, and closes at midnight, Sunday, May 24.
I want to thank Fifth Third Bank, which was instrumental in creating the grant program by donating banking services and disbursing funds to grantees.
The grant is designed to assist for-profit microenterprises to maintain or restart operations, and retain jobs by providing up to $5,000 for eligible operating expenses incurred between March 1 and June 30.

|
The program is funded with $1 million of the $4.4 million COVID-19 CARES Act Community Development Block Grant Funds. The grants are subject to federal requirements. EMRG is a one-time program that will terminate once the grant funds are disbursed. Please share this information with business owners who may qualify. Contact the Department of Economic Development at
emrg@toledo.oh.gov
or 419-245-1614 with any questions.

Toledo establishes grant program to assist very small businesses
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, along with the Toledo City Council, announced a new initiative on Thursday to provide some financial relief to very small businesses in the city. The initiative, called the Emergency Microenterprise Recovery Grant Program, will provide up to $5,000 grants to Toledo businesses with five or fewer employees.
Moms on the front line: Women pulling extra duty during difficult times
A few months ago, Catresa Hampton was a hero only to those who know her and her story. She’s a single mother who, at the age of 21, gave birth only 24 weeks into her pregnancy; who forged a career path as a full-time mom to a premature infant; who now, eight years later, has made a life and home for her and her daughter. But now during the pandemic, Ms. Hampton, as one of TARTA's bus drivers who continue to do their part to keep our world quasi-normal even at personal risk, is a hero to those who don’t know her.
Local volunteer program provides thousands of free meals in Toledo
A grass roots effort that started in Washington, D.C. to help feed people during the pandemic is now changing lives in Toledo. Families4Families is connecting some Toledo Public Schools students in need with those who can help. The program has already provided thousands of meals in Toledo. Volunteers gave out 900 meals at Reynolds Elementary on Thursday. Organizers say one of the best parts about the program is that a lot of young people are part of it.
