South Dakota recently enacted a law requiring prenatal growth and development education be taught in public schools. South Dakota's governor signed the bill at a Pregnancy Resource Center, making South Dakota the 7th state to adopt similar legislation.
There is a similar bill pending in the Missouri legislature. Senate bill 978, filed by Senator Schroer, would require scientific facts relating to the human growth and development of an unborn child in his or her mother's womb be taught in public schools including,
* That life begins at conception,
* That an unborn child's heart begins to beat in the 5th week,
* That an unborn child can feel pain at 16 weeks or earlier,
* That doctors can now perform surgery on unborn children as early as 16 weeks and, when doing so, administer anesthetic to the unborn child because that child can feel pain,
* The students would also view an actual ultrasound video of an unborn child as well as a video that shows the process of the unborn child's development from conception through birth.
The bill would allow a parent to opt out and remove their child from this part of the school’s curriculum.
Every pro-abortion argument ignores the scientific fact that life begins at conception and ignores or denies the humanity of the unborn child.
This legislation is vital for the future of the pro-life movement in that the students receiving this information will include future women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, their families, friends and support group, as well as future voters who will shape public policy.
The link to SB 978 is found below. We asked you to contact your State Representative and Senator and urged them to support and take action to pass this bill.
