Trevor Gregg
IT Supervisor, Cybersecurity and Systems Administrator, Tuolumne County
How do you explain to others what you do?
I’ve been with the County since 2019, and it is my first experience in the public sector. If you ask what I do, I could rattle off a list of all of the technical systems I manage, from VOIP to cybersecurity. I could go through all of the various strategic planning and performance monitoring I do. I could discuss the leadership I provide my high-performing, highly committed and independent Service Desk team, as we deliver gold-standard customer service and technical support.
What drew you to public service?
The support I provide to the departments, is support provided to my community. This is far more rewarding to me, serving my community, than helping to put money in the pockets of private-sector individuals. I believe in continual improvement, both for myself and the world around me, and in County government, opportunity for improvement abounds.
What’s the best piece of advice that you ever received?
While I have been the recipient of much great advice from peers and mentors, the most significant in recent memory comes from Martinus Evans, a brilliant motivational speaker. Rest and recovery are not weakness, but a necessary part of the process. Just as your body needs it, so does your psyche. But rest is not just sleep, it is the ability to set aside your mental burdens and responsibilities, if just for a while.
Three A’s: what’s your favorite Artist, Attraction, and Appetizer.
A long-time fan of electronic music, you might find me listening to Orbital, Underworld, or Massive Attack at any given time. Or I might be down at New Melones reservoir near my house, landing a 7-pound bass (or so I claim). And if you know me, such a day might be capped off with a west-coast IPA and some salt and pepper chicken wings.
