ABC’s of School Safety: Always Be Cautious 🚸

School is in session, which means our roads are busy with buses, walkers, bikers, and families getting into their new routines.

Here’s a fun, easy way to remember the essentials — the ABC’s of School Safety!

A = Alert eyes on the road

Stay extra aware in school zones and neighborhoods.

  • Watch for students who may dart across streets or make quick movements.
  • Slow down when flashing beacons are active.
  • Increase following distance during rainy fall weather; wet roads mean longer stopping times.

B = Be patient around buses and bikes

A little patience keeps everyone safe.

  • Leave extra space behind school buses.
  • Never block crosswalks — give walkers a clear path every time.
  • Expect morning and afternoon traffic near schools. Plan a few extra minutes into your commute.

C = Choose safe habits every day

Small choices make a big difference.

  • Put phones away when driving, walking, or biking near traffic.
  • Make sure students wear properly fitted helmets and bright or reflective gear on darker fall mornings.
  • Encourage kids to use sidewalks and crosswalks, follow signals, ride predictably, and use bike lanes when available.

Practicing your ABC’s keeps students, families, and drivers safe all year long 🚍
