Joy Ann Ribar, author of the Deep Lakes cozy mystery series, will join us in the store for a reading and signing.
You're invited to visit Deep Lakes, Wisconsin and meet a new friend, Francine “Frankie” Champagne. The 40-something owner of Bubble and Bake—bakery by day, wine lounge by night. Frankie is a spitfire pastry maker, vintner, and budding journalist.

In book 1, Deep Dark Secrets, Frankie finds herself on the perimeter of a suspicious death that upends the peaceful winter slumber in Deep Lakes when the local pastor is found dead inside his fishing shanty on Lake Loki. Frankie sticks her curious nose into the investigation, despite warnings from the local sheriff to leave it alone. But she has something to prove, maybe to the newspaper editor who wouldn't hire her as a reporter, maybe to herself as she searches for fulfillment. Regardless, her fierce independence won't allow her to back down. Follow Frankie as she stumbles upon one discovery after another, trails potential suspects, and solves the case.

Bring you little ones to storytime every Saturday at 3pm! Listen to visiting authors and our booksellers read favorite stories in-store and live on Instagram @wellerbookworks.

HELD WEEKLY ON SATURDAYS

Today we’ll read Lizzy and the Cloud by the Fan Brothers.

Join us for “Hannah Gadsby: Body of Work” at Capitol Theatre. We’ll be selling Gadsby’s new memoir, Ten Steps to Nanette: A Memoir Situation, at the event.

Hannah Gadsby's unique standup special Nanette was a viral success—and to some, her worldwide fame may have seemed like an overnight sensation. But like everything else about Gadsby, there's more to her success than meets the eye. In her first book, the queer Australian comedian, writer, and actress takes us through the key moments in her life that ultimately led to the creation of Nanette and her startling declaration that she was quitting comedy. She traces her growth as a gay woman from Tasmania—where homosexuality was illegal until 1997—to her ever-evolving relationship with comedy, to her struggle with late-in-life diagnoses of autism and ADHD, and finally to the backbone of Nanette—the renouncement of self-deprecation, the rejection of misogyny, and the moral power of telling the truth.

Join us for a literary Kaffeeklatsch! Books, coffee, snacks, and chats every Tuesday morning at MyAmour Café, located directly across from our first floor entrance.

Come to the circus! Kimberlee Turley will join us to sign her book, Circus of Shadows. There will be popcorn, cotton candy, and a live performance from aerialist Holly Ann Jarvis!

When seventeen-year-old Gracie Hart gets caught stealing a ride on a circus train, she expects to be arrested. Instead, she is offered a job as the assistant to the circus magician and knife-thrower, Jack. He's charismatic and genteel but his aim isn't perfect—hence the open position. Once Gracie starts performing with Jack, she begins finding threatening notes hidden in her costume. A death on the circus lot makes one thing clear: if Gracie can't figure out the mysteries under the big top, her next venue might be the afterlife.

Holly Ann Jarvis is an international aerial artist and instructor with champion titles in both aerial sling and acrobatic pole.

Nick Seabrook, author of One Person, One Vote: A Surprising History of Gerrymandering in America, will join us in conversation with Catherine Weller. This event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Utah. Tune into our Facebook page to catch the livestream!

A redistricting crisis is now upon us. This surprising, compelling book tells the history of how we got to this moment—from the Founding Fathers to today’s high-tech manipulation of election districts—and shows us how to protect our most sacred, hard-fought principle of one person, one vote. This is the book on gerrymandering for citizens, politicians, journalists, activists, and voters.

Nick Seabrook is a professor in the department of political science and public administration at the University of North Florida.

We’re delighted to be joined by S. K. Wenger, author of Chicken Frank, Dinosaur!

We will be joined in the store by Richard G. Scharine, author of the short story collection The Past We Step Into.

In this book, a young couple finds themselves hip-deep in sex, social change, the Arts, Civil Rights, politics, warfare, and—ultimately—children, as they negotiate the paths of self-discovery spanning over fifty years and four continents. In these twelve stories, we experience the America we remember, the America we want to forget, and the America we dream of achieving.

Richard Scharine is a professor emeritus in the University of Utah theatre department, where his honors include University Professor, University Diversity Award, and College of Fine Arts Excellence Award. Dr. Scharine has published two scholarly books, five book chapters, and a score or more articles. A Fulbright Senior Lecturer at the University of Gdansk in Poland, he has directed a hundred plays and acted in seven foreign countries, including the title role in Oedipus at Colonus in Athens, Greece.

Today we'll read The Night Walk by Marie Dorléans.

With Chris Vanocur, author of Sander’s Study: A Son’s Story, a biography about his father, Sander Vanocur.

Known as one of America’s best political reporters, Sander Vanocur covered every major story and politician of the 1960s. He reported on both John and Robert Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Richard Nixon. His reporting assignments took him from the civil rights struggles in the Mississippi Delta to the war-torn Mekong Delta of Vietnam. Fortuitously, this legendary TV reporter saved many of his dispatches and documents from these extraordinary times.

In this deeply personal biography, Vanocur’s son—a decorated reporter himself—unearths a treasure trove of historical gems in his father’s study. In old and decaying filing cabinets, Chris Vanocur stumbles upon political and family secrets kept hidden for decades. They reveal his dad’s notable achievements and his self-described spectacular missteps. It’s a highly emotional voyage of discovery for the younger reporter, one which ultimately brings him closer to his father.
