Lieutenant Greg Budnar retired last month from the Tarrytown Police Department, and any time a long-serving officer retires, it sets off a series of promotions within the department. The Board of Trustees was pleased to appoint the following officers to new positions within the department at their February 3 Board Meeting:
- Detective Sergeant Daryl Stiloski was promoted to Lieutenant.
- Sergeant Dennis Smith was promoted to Detective Sergeant.
- Officer Michael Gagliardi was promoted to Sergeant.
Congratulations to all! And thank you for your service to the Village.

The Board of Trustees was also pleased to welcome a new officer to Tarrytown. Officer Claudio Liranzo arrives from the NYPD where he has served as an officer since June of 2021. Officer Liranzo stated that he aims to foster collaboration with his co-workers and the community as one of his goals in working with the Tarrytown Police Department. Please welcome him to the Village when you see him.

Congressman George Latimer visits Tarrytown: The newly elected congressional representative for the 16th District, Congressman George Latimer, visited the Board of Trustees meeting on February 3rd as part of a local outreach campaign to the 28 municipalities within his constituency. Congressman Latimer discussed some of his current initiatives including the introduction of a bill to improve transparency for small businesses in the bidding process for government contracts. Congressman Latimer is serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee for Small Business. His newly opened District Office is located at 222 Mamaroneck Avenue, Suite 312, White Plains, NY 10605. Tel: (914) 323-5550.

Tarrytown Environmental Advisory Council Annual Report: Co-Chairs Dean Gallea and Rachel Tieger presented the annual report for TEAC, highlighting the committee's many activities throughout the year. From helping to draft the Village's Climate Action Plan to planting native pollinator gardens to removing invasive vines to hosting community-wide clean-ups and a Repair Cafe, the Committee is a very active group and every year seems to get a lot done. They are always looking for volunteers to help with their many activities. Check out their website and their newsletter to learn how to get involved.

Camp and Pool Fees Set for 2025 Season: The Board of Trustees approved changes to camp and pool fees for the 2025 season as the Recreation Department prepares for warmer weather ahead (yes, it will eventually return to Tarrytown!). There is an increase in camp fees this year to increase cost transparency for the camp sessions. Because there are always field trips as part of a camp week, and the costs have been historically added as extra fees per session, the Department wanted to roll those costs into the camp session week so families understand from the beginning how much they can expect to spend. By incorporating the costs into the fee for the session, it also allows families attending the camp on scholarship to have the field trip fee included as part of their overall discount. The full list of seasonal fee changes can be found in the meeting agenda. The Board will consider additional changes to the Village's Master Fee Schedule at its next Work Session.

Heavy Snow Expected this Week
According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm advisory is in effect this evening from 5pm until Sunday afternoon. Between 5 and 7 inches are anticipated.
The Village is not yet calling a snow emergency, but should conditions worsen, the snow emergency policies may be enacted. As a reminder this means that parking is prohibited on certain streets in the Village during the snow emergency, and residents may remove their vehicles from the roadway and park them in Lot D until the snow emergency has been lifted. Lot D is located next to the Recreation Center. In the case of a snow emergency the list of streets that need to be cleared will be posted on the Village website and can also be found in the Village Code.
Our Public Works crews will be working as long as needed to get the roadways clear and safe, but they need your help to ensure a smooth operation:
Do not shovel or plow snow and ice into the street. Instead, shovel it to grassy areas, or put on the sidewalks at the curb or alongside driveways so as not to obstruct parking.
Sidewalk café operators should bring in their tables and chairs so that the snow cleanup efforts can take place. Tables, chairs and barriers may be put back out after the storm has ended and the snow and ice have been cleared.
A few more reminders about safety during winter storm events:
Keep sidewalks clear: By law, adjacent property owners or occupants must clear snow and ice within 18 hours after a snowfall, or if the snow has melted, ice must be cleared within two hours. "If the melted snow and ice shall be frozen to a degree that it cannot be removed within said period by customary means, the owner or occupant of the abutting premises shall cause salt, sand, ashes, sawdust or other suitable material to be strewn upon the sidewalks, driveways and access and exit roads within the said period.”
A little salt goes a long way: To prevent ice buildup use salt and sand sparingly because it flows directly into our rivers, lakes, and streams.
Walk like a penguin: Prevent unnecessary injury this winter season by taking care when walking on ice.

Safe Streets for All: Please Take the Survey!
The Village of Tarrytown, Village of Sleepy Hollow, and the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are working together over the next year to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to prevent serious injury and death on roadways.
The Plan will identify our community's traffic safety concerns, locations and intersections to address, and possible solutions to employ. Input from residents and traffic collision data will result in an implementation plan to guide future investments, which will also create additional funding opportunities to promote traffic safety.
There are multiple ways for community members to help inform the plan:
1) Take the survey and help identify dangerous intersections and sections of roadway in the community.
2) Attend two public meetings. The first will take place on Thursday, March 20 at the Tarrytown Senior Center. More details to follow.
3) Connect with the team putting the plan together at one of numerous engagement events happening this year.
The Project Page is posted on the Village website and will be updated as the project progresses.
