October has been a month of momentum and meaningful milestones. We celebrated educators at the RIMS AVID Impact Awards Night, highlighted multilingual students at the 2025 California State Seal of Biliteracy ceremonies, and showcased career readiness at the Advancing California Apprenticeship Summit.

These events demonstrate how partnerships and purpose are transforming futures, and showcase the importance of empowering every student with the tools, support and opportunities they need to succeed.

Whether through AVID strategies, apprenticeship pathways or countywide initiatives, we are building bridges from classroom to career and that’s how we continue transforming lives through education.

Be sure to watch the video message above highlighting the transformative power of school-family partnerships. You can also learn more about events from this past month, read announcements and find resources we offer throughout the County by reading the featured stories below.

Honoring Educators at RIMS AVID Impact Awards

The second annual RIMS AVID Impact Awards brought together over 150 educators to honor districts and school sites transforming student futures through AVID strategies on Oct. 2 in Ontario. The evening highlighted the achievements of AVID seniors, celebrating the following:

  • 94% completed A-G requirements
  • 85% earned acceptance to four-year colleges
  • 87% plan to pursue higher education

Keynote speaker Euridici Fitz, Principal of Bing Wong Elementary School, inspired attendees with a message of purpose and perseverance. Leaders from SBCSS highlighted partnerships that streamline college access, including direct admissions pathways to California State University, San Bernardino and tools that simplify applications and financial aid.

Inland Empire Hosts Statewide Apprenticeship Summit

On Oct. 8, the Inland Empire took center stage as the host region for the Advancing California Apprenticeship Summit, welcoming educators and community leaders to Colton High School. Led by student ambassadors, attendees toured career technical education programs and witnessed firsthand how SBCSS and its partners are redefining career readiness.

IEConnect, launched in 2022 by SBCSS and Riverside County Office of Education, is California’s first K–12 registered pre-apprenticeship sponsor. The summit highlighted its extensive growth, from 17 students registered in 2022–23 to over 2,200 in 2024–25 across six career sectors including Automotive, Culinary and Early Childhood Education.

Strategic partnerships with workforce boards, college and industry networks are helping students plan for life after graduation, bridging high school to employment through state-recognized pathways. The summit reinforced the region’s commitment to cradle-to-career success, spotlighting how apprenticeships are breaking barriers and building futures.

Seal of Biliteracy Scholars Recognized at Ceremonies

SBCSS proudly kicked off the 2025 California State Seal of Biliteracy celebrations, honoring students who have achieved proficiency in multiple languages. Two of the three regional recognition ceremonies, in the West End and High Desert, showcased the academic dedication and cultural pride of this year’s honorees.

At both ceremonies, students were recognized for meeting the rigorous criteria established by the state of California. This year, approximately 3,809 seals are being awarded countywide, reflecting a growing commitment to multilingual education and the value of linguistic diversity in our schools.

Students were celebrated for achieving proficiency in languages such as American Sign Language, Arabic, French, Filipino, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and Telugu in addition to English. The final celebration will conclude in the East Valley region on Nov. 19.

SBCSS is calling for artwork submissions for our annual holiday cards and multimedia presentation. We encourage drawings to be submitted by SBCSS staff members with school-age children (5-18), grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or close family friends and SBCSS students from our Student Services programs.
