Dear SI Chico,
It is with profound sadness that we share with you the news of the passing of Dina Volenski. After a courageous and difficult battle with cancer, Dina passed away peacefully the morning of October 30, 2024.
Many of you will remember Dina as she was a long-time SI Chico member and 2006/07 Past-President as well as District Director. Over the last five years, Dina was a member of SI Bidwell Rancho as the demands of her job did not provide her time to meet for lunchtime meetings with SI Chico. She was a long-term, dedicated Soroptimist for more than 23 years and often attended conferences, including some abroad.
A lifelong Paradise resident, Dina began her service in the Town of Paradise in 2008 when she was hired as Assistant Town Clerk. In 2016, she was promoted to Town Clerk and Emergency Public Information Officer, a role she embodied with courage and commitment in the challenging days after the Camp Fire.
As the town recovered, Dina served as the first person to greet visitors to Town Hall, the voice on the other end of the phone when residents called for information, and a sympathetic ear for residents. Despite also having lost her home in the fire, she continued to seek new opportunities for herself and follow Paradisians at every juncture. In April 2021, the Town of Paradise announced that Dina had been selected as the 2022 recipient of the Municipal Clerk of the Year by the City Clerks Association of California.
She was an outstanding human being and beloved by many. We will always remember your beautiful smile and heart of gold, Dina. Until we meet again.
