Wells Galore

Through the steady flow of your generous donations, we continue to provide fresh flowing water to many Cambodian families. We have reached a significant milestone with over 1700 new wells plus 400 repaired wells. “In my wildest dreams I could not imagine this result when I donated my first well 19 years ago,” says Jenni Lipa, CCDO Founder and President.

Sue & Ralph Griffin of Atlanta are the proud sponsors of the 1700th well. They have donated over 15 wells, many of which are in memory of friends who have passed. A touching and meaningful tribute to special people in their life.

Statement from Sue

Donating a water well in Siem Reap is a meaningful way to honor family and friends who have died instead of flowers. This helps provide drinking water to families in need who would otherwise have to walk quite a distance to get clean, healthy water and creates a legacy to assist a community for years to come with a sanitary source of water.

Nicole Cayer, our newest donor came across CCDO when searching on the internet to give a meaningful donation. She donated a well and a latrine. She was so impressed with our efficiency and documentation that she immediately decided to donate yet another well and latrine.

Nicole says, “I have been doing a lot of research for few months on the internet for small to mid-size charitable organizations who would supply basics needs or self-reliance in Africa or other undeveloped countries. I can't remember exactly where I found it. I have been to Cambodia and Africa, so I have seen how some areas struggle.

If donors receive some excess money they can share (rent, real estate sale, dividends, interests, inheritance, pension or any other revenue), instead of investing and paying more tax over the long run, they can give it to people who really need it just to survive.”

Together We Can Change the World (TWCCTW) have been on a mission to donate wells over the past 10 years. Through their individual sponsors, they have just donated another 8 wells, bringing their total to an impressive 286 wells. We love your donations and your visits!

Japanese-American Family Visit

CCDO was blessed with the visit of Itsuko Takeuchi and her two children Kai (16yrs) and Sara (12yrs). They live in San Diego, California and were happy to get involved with our projects. Prior to the visit, they collected Legos and toys and books from friends, including their "Mustang Club". Our schoolchildren were thrilled to receive so many novel gifts. Most importantly, Kai and Sara were delighted to have a meaningful travel and volunteer experience. It has certainly changed their perspective in seeing less fortunate kids and how the little things they might take for granted can make them so happy.

Sara says, “Through my experience of visiting Siem Reap with CCDO, I have learned a lot about the reality of Cambodia that is not told in the media or in school. I realized that there is not enough internet access or access to English education in schools in rural areas. For me, I would like to support CCDO by contributing to English education, digital literacy, and making schools a place that everyone can attend regardless of their circumstances.”

Digital Literacy

Our archangel Paul Schrieber stepped in to fund our important Digital Literacy program after a prior donor dropped out. The 1-year program teaches principals and teachers how to best use computers from learning excel program to setting up emails to making flash cards and tests and attendance. Paul is a visionary that supports education fit for 21st century in rural areas of Cambodia by giving educators necessary tools.

Staff News

Congratulations to Sophorn Touch, CCDO’s Finance and Administrative Coordinator on achieving her Masters of Business Administration. Sophorn joined our team 9 years ago. She already has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. She is married and has a very bright 8 year old son. She is the glue that keeps CCDO together. What a dedication and great accomplishment to combine working full time and caring for a family while studying for an advance degree. Sophorn, you are a superstar.

“I was born in the countryside of Siem Reap, where my parents worked tirelessly as farmers. In 1994, the civil war forced my family to move to the city, and I began school late at age seven, already feeling older than my classmates.

My two sisters gave up their education to support our family, while my younger brother finished high school. I was the only one who continued, eventually earning a master’s degree.

My father’s words that education is the bridge to a brighter future became my guiding light. With his wisdom, the support of CCDO and mentor Carol Duster, and the unwavering help of my husband and family, who assisted me in caring for my son while I studied, I found the strength to grow and achieve my dreams.”
