Senior Wyatt Gravier Named Boys Sprinter of the Year

Bronxville High School Senior Wyatt Gravier has been named the Refuel With Chocolate Milk Boys Sprinter of the Year – a prestigious honor made even more remarkable by the fact that he beat out an Olympian to receive the award.

A standout on Bronxville’s track and field team for the past six years, Gravier has built a reputation as one of the most impactful athletes in program history. He specializes in hurdling events but also holds school records in the high jump, both indoor and outdoor, as well as several relay events. His leadership and performance have helped elevate the program to new heights, including a victory at the Westchester County Championship.

“Wyatt is an exceptional athlete, but winning an award of this magnitude was obviously particularly special,” coach Brian Halling said.

Junior Wins Prestigious Music Competition

Bronxville High School Junior Tiantong Wang has been named the winner of the Lehman College Jerome G. Sala Memorial Competition, earning a scholarship in recognition of his exceptional technical skill and artistic presentation on the oboe.

“Tiantong is an outstanding oboist, musician, and leader,” Bronxville Band Director Uma Karkala said. “He is an outstanding musician due to his ability to focus his energy and effort for continued growth and success.”

Competing against students from across the New York metropolitan area, Wang’s achievement reflects his dedication to refining his craft. As part of the award, he has been invited to perform as a soloist with the Lehman College Band on May 18 in the Lovinger Theater at Lehman College.

Since joining Bronxville two years ago, Wang has distinguished himself through his artistry and perseverance. He serves as principal oboe in the Bronxville Honors Band and is also a member of the high school jazz ensemble. His accomplishments include being selected for the 2024 NYSSMA Conference All-State Symphonic Band, where he represented Bronxville as an oboist at the state level.

Math Club Hosts Math Fair for Elementary School Students

Members of Bronxville High School’s Math Club recently held the annual Fun Math Fair, welcoming enthusiastic fourth and fifth graders for an afternoon of hands-on, math-related activities.

The event featured a variety of engaging stations, including 24 Game, origami, puzzles, chess, a math-related scavenger hunt, and paper airplane construction. The students also enjoyed a festive atmosphere with a photo booth, snacks and refreshments, and a raffle featuring math-related prizes.

Organized by the Math Club members, the fair was a student-led initiative, where the high school students selected activities based on their personal interests and areas of expertise, volunteering to lead each station and guide the younger students through the challenges. The Math Fun Fair provided an opportunity for the elementary school students to see math in a new light – as a creative and hands-on subject. It also built meaningful connections between the high school and elementary school students, fostering collaboration, problem-solving, and mentorship.

An Important Message Regarding Transportation

If you are planning to participate in the Bronxville UFSD private school transportation program, we wanted to give advanced notice that the program may be changing somewhat in the coming year. Bronxville’s cost to provide the program is very high relative to other districts. Due to the rapidly rising cost of contracted busing (up 40% in the last three years averaging over $14,000 per student), we are seeking to provide the service at a lower cost in the coming year, which may include the following:

  • Use of public transportation - Metro North Trains, Westchester County bus, etc.
  • Use of school shuttles to and from public transportation.
  • Use of centrally located pickup points – leaving and returning from the school vs. home.

We realize that this may be a departure from past practices, but the cost of providing the current level of service is unsustainable.
