Transition US, Regenerative Communities Summit

Wednesday, September 29, 5–7 pm PST

OVERVIEW

The Earth Democracy Issue Committee urges WILPF members to be informed about the military effects on climate and to share that information with others. We must move the money, from destructive military expenditures to addressing the climate crisis and other human needs! Register for just this session of the Transition US Summit, or you're welcome to join for more sessions of the two-week Summit – details below.

Come hear this inspiring panel on ways communities can work in solidarity, this Wednesday, September 29 at 5 pm Pacific / 6 pm Mountain / 7 pm Central / 8 pm Eastern. Advocate for divestment from our military's massive funding of destruction! Communities can move toward funding that supports systems of justice, nonviolence, and healing.

Our ballooning US military budget (larger than the next ten countries combined) diverts funds from desperately needed responses to both community health and social service needs, as well as climate crisis challenges. For perspective: In 2020, we spent less than half a percent –  .028% – of our discretionary budget on renewables, compared to over 60% on the military.

The military itself has a substantial influence on climate change: Our US military is the largest institutional consumer of fossil fuels, the largest emitter of carbon emissions, and arguably the worst environmental polluter in the world.

REGISTRATION

Register here for the Transition US Summit. (You can listen to just this panel or the entire conference.) If you're able to join for more sessions of the two-week Summit, great! And if not, you can register just for this session with these same options:

  • Please register and pay on a sliding scale, only what you can afford to give. Any amount is appreciated (even $1), or none, as your presence is most appreciated.
  • Also, youth, BIPOC folks, and those on a limited income, are encouraged to register for free (using the promo code provided on the registration page).
