Photo & Video Industry News Roundup

Neurapix. Personalized AI cropping. Neurapix, developer of user-trainable AI editing SmartPresets, introduces an individualized AI-assisted cropping feature that can be trained like its other image editing parameters and applied to large batches of images.

Neurapix says that it only takes 20 edited photos to build a personalized SmartPreset that then can do the editing at scale, all in the photographer’s own style.

Alice Camera. Best of 2 worlds? After three years of development, Photogram is about to ship the Alice Camera, a novel AI-powered camera that attaches to iOS and Android smartphones.

Alice is a Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera, beefed up with Qualcomm Snapdragon and Google Edge TPU processors to run its computational photography algorithms for optimizing color, white balance and image brightness on the camera itself.

Users can attach their interchangeable lenses of choice and control the camera via Alice’s own smartphone app, which also enables them to manage their files and share their photos and videos online.

(SwitchLens and Exclope DT1, both currently raising money on Kickstarter, are pursuing a similar approach).

Claid.AI. Brushing-triggered editing. Forget painstakingly using marquees to identify areas of an image that need editing. Claid, whose CEO & Founder Sofiia Shvets will speak in our Scalable Imagery for eCommerce panel at Visual 1st, announces Brush.

This feature set lets you quickly brush parts on an image that need editing or enhancement and then have Claid’s sophisticated (GenAI) editing power take care of the rest: remove unwanted objects, fix imperfections, regenerate elements in AI backgrounds, and more.

MediaViZ AI. Neé IMAIGE. Visual 1st Gold Sponsor IMAIGE has rebranded as MediaViZ AI in order to align its brand more with its strategic vision. The company also announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted the startup a patent for personalized multimedia curation and management, titled "General Content Perception and Selection System.” The technology based on this patent serves as the foundation of the new MediaViz AI platform.

Fujifilm Instax. Going wide. Fujifilm announces the Instax Wide 400, an instant camera that captures large, 3.4 x 4.25-inch instant prints. To accommodate the larger instant print size, the camera itself is a literal handful.

New Instax features include a self-timer, two-range focus modes, automatic exposure, and flash control. The camera automatically senses the level of ambient light when the shutter button is pressed and optimizes the shutter speed and flash output accordingly.

Augie Studio. The Canva for AI video creation. AugX, whose CEO & Founder Jeremy Toeman will speak in our Photos & Videos are More Than a Collection of Dead Pixels panel at Visual 1st, is freshly rebranded as Augie Studio and has exited beta.

Its mission? Nothing less than enabling social media marketers, brand managers, and creative advertisers to generate & edit videos with the type of creative power and ease of use that Canva offers for generating visual content, such as images or banners.

To read more about the vision behind Augie Studio, check out last week's VentureBeat interview with Jeremy Toeman, whose career includes previous positions as VP of Product Management at WarnerMedia and VP Product Management at Etsy.

Picsart & Getty. AI training from stock photos #1. Stock photography threatened by GenAI? Think again! (and do so once more in a few years’ time in case today's boosts are short-lived). For the new AI model that Picsart is developing for its business-focused creative tools, the company is partnering with Getty Images to use their stock photo collection. With Getty as the training source, Picsart’s customers should be able to generate “commercially safe” AI imagery, according to Picsart.

(Getty also offers its own AI image generator and has partnerships with generative AI developers Bria AI, last year’s Visual 1st Best Technology Award winner, and Runway).

Databricks & Shutterstock. AI training from stock photos #2. Another partnership aimed at enabling users to generate “commercially safe” AI imagery from stock photos: cloud storage platform Databricks is partnering with Shutterstock to train its new generative AI model with Shutterstock’s vast image depository.

(Shutterstock also offers its own AI image generator, powered by OpenAI and Google AI tech).

Skylum. iPhone port. Past Visual 1st Best Technology Award winner Skylum announces the port to the iPhone of its newly updated Luminar Mobile app, which initially only ran on iPad and Apple Vision Pro.

As an iPhone app, AI-powered Luminar Mobile is aimed at serving the needs of creative pros who’d like to edit and share their imagery on the go. Luminar Mobile offers a broad range of smart photo enhancements.

Uniclip & ImageQuix. Partnership. Uniclip by Flam, co-developed by past Visual 1st Special Recognition Award winner Flam and last year’s Show & Tell presenter GPS, is now available on ImageQuix’s Blueprint platform.

Uniclip provides sophisticated AR features, powered by AI. Blueprint is a workflow and ecommerce platform for the volume photography industry.
