August 2025

A Perfect Storm of the Worst Kind.

This year, an average of 11,400 Americans will turn 65 every day. Roughly 1,250 of those 11,400 Americans live below the federal poverty line of $15,000 annual income.

Simultaneously, historically deep budget cuts in federal funding from the Older American’s Act and Medicaid will directly impact the most vulnerable in our community: seniors who depend on us for their daily meals, social contact, access to healthcare, and more.

We are facing a ‘perfect storm’ of skyrocketing need and plummeting funding.

Gratefully,

ISR Interim Executive Directors -

Cheryn Weiser and Nic Wildeman

What Remains After Cornbread

Every bite of warm cornbread takes me straight back to my grandmother, her soft lavender scent, her stories, and all those small, happy rituals we shared. But life changes quickly, and sometimes our loved ones slip away, lost behind closed doors and silent goodbyes. This piece is about missing those who once held our world together and remembering just how much they gave.
