Design With Better Versions

By Jeff Gibson, Ball Landscape Business Manager

From my experience with customers in the field, and as the Ball Landscape Business Manager, I’m here to help identify new programs and concepts that help landscape designers succeed. My advice this season? Don’t get stuck in a rut! It’s time to rethink your landscape design choices. Out with the old – and in with thebetter! And you’ll find better blooming, better performance, and better availability with a whole new program developed by the experts at Darwin Perennials.

For this cool concept, called Better Versions, the breeders have improved the genetics of three existing landscape perennials. But they’re not just substitutions – they’re the better choice. Get ready to evolve with the following Better Versions:

Lavender ‘SuperBlue’ is better than Lavender ‘Hidcote’ because of its bigger blooms and better habit in the landscape. This means more color for your design!

Nepeta Junior Walker™ is better than Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ because of earlier blooming and a habit that won’t lodge open. Floppy plants make for sloppy gardens.

Salvia ‘Blue by You’ is better than Salvia May Night because of earlier blooming, better habit and more reflushes throughout the season. Its reblooming power is truly unmatched, and it’s an All-America Selections winner, too!

After being trialed and evaluated for performance across multiple regions – and enjoying up to five years of market sales success – these top three Better Versions from Darwin Perennials should definitely be on your next plant list. You’ll get better blooming, as well as better performance without worrying about the success of your next landscape design.

Contact your preferred wholesale grower and ask for one of these Better Versions today!

We are proud to partner again this year with Communities in Bloom (CiB) to offer a $500 school garden grant to a CiB community school!

The grants can be used for supplies, soil, seeds, or indoor units to expand the growing season. We are happy to help any school make the most out of their school garden by providing these funds to help in making the garden flourish. Now more than ever, food security, climate change, water security and soil health are topics that can be taught in a school garden.

Please share this opportunity with your local schools and encourage them to apply.

Deadline for applications is August 4, 2023 and the winner will be announced during the CIB National Symposium. Learn more about our Foundation.
