GETTING AHEAD

Program provides a 'jump start' for Progress

This spring, we celebrated the Progress of more than two dozen participants for their completion of the "Getting Ahead in A Just-Gettin'-By World" program. This 16-week program engages participants, or "investigators" to consider how poverty affects their lives and their communities, and examine their current situations. From there, they can build resources, and begin to develop a vision for the future, creating a plan for getting ahead.

One recent Hanover-area graduate shared,

"What I learned in class was the importance of establishing a support team. For instance, building community resources, enlarging friendships within my community, building a healthy finance system and obtaining personal self-care routines. The change in my life now consists of utilizing my support team effectively and creatively when I’m able to.

"One of the members of my support team is my coach at Community Progress Council. My coach provides resources for questions or concerns regarding my goals, wants or needs. My coach is enthusiastic and I truly believe she’s on my side and stands next to me, no matter what I may be facing. How magnificent is it to know a warrior that will go to bat and swing the hardest."

"Getting Ahead" is often called the high-octane fuel that addresses poverty, a jump-start for people to begin to build relationships, resources, and skills to plan their future story. If you or someone you know may be curious about the new cohort, give us a call! Our summer sessions begin in late April in English and Spanish, and meeting days, times, and locations are determined based on the needs of participants. People interested in participating can call a Navigator at 717-846-4600 to connect.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT ON YWCA HANOVER

CATCH TEAM CPC AT GIVE LOCAL YORK in HANOVER

THANK YOU, ADAMS ELECTRIC

HELP US SHARE THE GOOD NEWS

Working together with YWCA Hanover

When organizations work together, families thrive. This school year, Community Progress Council launched a meaningful partnership with YWCA Hanover to ensure children in the early childhood education classrooms at our Hanover hub — just across the street at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church — receive daily breakfast and lunch.

By aligning services, sharing resources, and oftentimes serving the same families, we’re building healthier learning environments and a stronger support network for Hanover’s children and their families.

Read more to discover how this collaboration is putting our shared values into action — one meal, one classroom, and one partnership at a time.

Catch Team CPC in Hanover for Give Local York

Community Progress Council is ready to bring its energy to Hanover once again for Give Local York! Our team will be raising much-needed money to empower and support our low-income neighbors as they work toward financial stability — and you can help.

Join us from 4 to 7 PM Friday, May 1, for the Give Local Fest just behind Fat Bat Brewing Company and the old bank in downtown Hanover, at Bank Lane and Railroad Street. Team CPC will be set up alongside other nonprofit partners and a food truck to say hello and share information about the good work we're doing in the Hanover area.

Can't make it out? You can also visit our online giving page to make a donation any time from 7PM April 30 to 7PM May 1, or give a cash gift or via check during the month of April as an "offline" gift. Every dollar donated will be enhanced with bonus funds provided by GLY sponsors — making donor dollars stretch further!

Thank you, Adams Electric Cooperative

Thank you to our partners at Adams Electric Cooperative, Inc. for their generous donation to Community Progress Council!

Their contribution is in recognition of our work together to implement Project Helping Hand, a program that engages community agencies throughout the co-op’s service territory in Hanover and beyond, to provide limited funding to those who need help paying their electric bills.

We're proud to be partners in this effort to help meet immediate needs of our neighbors, and to connect participants with other Community Progress Council services that can help them achieve progress toward their goals.

Hiring in Hanover!

With strong knowledge of CPC programs, this role builds effective relationships with families and community partners and coordinates integrated services that support progress toward self-sufficiency.
