New honoraria guidelines for short-term pulpit supply
Lay persons providing short-term pulpit supply while a pastor is away should take note of honoraria changes. The Upper New York Cabinet approved the changes in August 2024 following the 2024 UNY Annual Conference session.
The changes are as follows:
- The suggested honoraria for Certified Lay Servants, Certified Lay Speakers, and Certified Lay Ministers asked to provide pulpit supply outside of the local church where their membership is held is $150 for the first service of the day and $75 for each additional service on the same day.
- If the church is part of a two-point charge, the suggested honoraria is $112.50 per church.
- If there are three churches on the charge, the suggested honoraria is $100 per church.
The honoraria changes do not apply to persons who are lay supply, hired by the district superintendent to serve long-term and functioning as a worship leadership.

Opportunity to give to
Skye Farm Camp and Retreat Center
It's springtime at camp, which means we're taking stock of the supplies we'll use to create awesome experiences for our campers this summer-- things like craft supplies, additional hammocks so a full cabin group can enjoy them together, and more. This is a great opportunity to make a gift to camp to support our summer programs! We have an Amazon wish list where folks can choose an item to sponsor and it will be sent directly to camp. You can access the list through the link below, or email us at skyefarmoffice@unyumc.org if you're interested in donating something outside of the Amazon list. We appreciate all the ways our community supports Skye Farm, whether that means trusting us with your family, volunteering your time, spreading the word about what we do, helping get kids to camp, or making gifts like these. 🧡

The Rev.
David Smith's
Photo Devotion
My Neighborhood: Part 11
On this rainy day, the color of the blossoms on this tree seem to be particularly beautiful against the background of the gray skies.
During difficult times the light of a single act can bring beauty and hope.
It reminds me of musicians siting in the ruins of a city destroyed by conflict playing, providing comfort to those who had lost so much and offering the world a powerful statement that there is kindness and hope.
Sometimes we can be the bearers of a message that God’s love is still at work in the world simply by being present and willing to listen to those who are suffering.
“My Neighborhood 2025 – Part 11” was taken at The Crossings of Colonie Park on 5/6/2025.
I have done more than 1,700 Daily Photo Devotions, most of which can be seen on my blog at Blog Posts – Daily Photo Devotions (wordpress.com).
Shalom,
David E. Smith, Pastor
