People of faith, faith leaders, and people working in the HIV and AIDS response are invited to attend a Faith Pre-Conference to the U.S. Conference on HIV/AIDS (USCHA) to discuss and develop strategies to access and strengthen the capacity of houses of worship and faith-based organizations that are engaged or wish to engage in efforts to end the HIV epidemic.
This year's preconference theme is: "Rooted in Faith, Reclaiming Truths, Resilient in Community: 45 Years of Sacred Resistance." In alignment with the USCHA theme: "United and Unbreakable: The HIV Movement at 45," the focus of this preconference will be to reflect on 45 years of faith, resistance, resilience, advocacy, and community leadership in the HIV movement—honoring the sacred work of those who challenged stigma, cared for the sick and dying, demanded justice, and created spaces of belonging when institutions too often failed to respond.
We are excited to welcome one such champion and pioneer in the HIV response, Phill Wilson! Phill Wilson is a multi-hyphenate community organizer, activist, and policymaker, best known for founding the Black AIDS Institute and serving as its President and CEO from 1999 until his retirement in 2019. As a proud Black openly Gay man and a person living with HIV, Phill has been an unwavering, outspoken voice on behalf of Black, Black LGBTQ+, and people living with HIV/AIDS. Phill Wilson personifies the power of speaking truth to power, and what can happen when Black queer people demand the love and respect we need and deserve. We will learn more about Phill's journey through 45 years of the HIV epidemic, and how faith has played a role in that journey.
Register for the USCHA Faith Preconference today to hear from Phill and others as we consider how we remain rooted in faith, resilient in community, and united in the ongoing work of ending HIV.
