A Message from the President
Dear East Catholic Family,
With 22 days until the Class of 2024 graduates, there are events almost every day or night in the month of May. There are celebrations like the Summa Scholar reception or our Academic and Book Awards ceremony, and there are final arts performances for our Seniors. Please remember to check the calendar regularly to be sure you do not miss any of the festivities!
While the Seniors are gearing up for their next chapter, we also are welcoming our new students (Class of 2028) into the East Catholic family. On Tuesday, April 30th, the incoming freshmen and their parents/guardians came to campus for an information and mingling session. Many thanks to Mr. Malone, Mrs. Diemar, and our student ambassadors for putting together a lovely evening.
We were excited to have an accomplished alumnus on campus on Wednesday when Dan Halloran ’86 came to our Integrated Technology Center to check out our new Broadcast Studio, show off his Emmy award for work done at ESPN, and to speak with the staff of our monthly newscast, The Nest. Thanks for visiting, Dan!
Looking forward, starting on Monday, AP Exams will run for two weeks, so many students will be finishing up their AP classes. The Seniors' last day of classes will be May 16th, and their prom is on the 17th. Baccalaureate Mass will be at St. Mary’s in East Hartford on Wednesday, May 22nd, and graduation will be at the Cathedral of St. Joseph on Thursday, May 23rd. We look forward to a great celebration of our amazing Seniors!
As always, please be in touch with any questions, concerns, or good news!
Peace and blessings,
Sean P. Brennan ‘85
Chief Administrator

Summa Scholars
On Wednesday, April 24th, the Summa Awards Ceremony was held at St. Thomas Seminary to honor those who have performed academically in the top 5% of their class. During the ceremony, students used their time at the podium to recognize a faculty member who has impacted them during their high school career. What a special moment! Congratulations to East Catholic’s Summa Scholars for the Class of 2024!

A Special Broadcast Studio Visitor
Dan Halloran, Class of 1986, visited our Broadcast Studio on Wednesday after school. He spoke to some of our broadcasting students about his career, his work at ESPN over the past 20 years, and shared some advice when it comes to video production. We were so grateful to he was able to return to The Hill for a visit! He even brought along his Emmy for us to see in person! Look for an "Alumni Spotlight" on Dan Halloran, written by his classmate, Ms. Kirsche, in The Eagle magazine this Fall!

Seniors, what an exciting month we have begun! It was great to meet with all of you one-on-one these last couple of weeks and hear your reflections on your time at East. Whether you were with us one year or four, it has ben a pleasure to watch you grow as scholars, athletes and citizens.

Service Hours
Remember that all students are required to complete 10 hours of community service by the Spring. Many organizations could use extra hands to assist in their undertakings for the community for the Spring!
Although it is the student's own responsibility to search out places to volunteer, Campus Ministry does have some opportunities that are offered right here through our school, as well as a few volunteer activities with local organizations that are happening on a weekly basis. If you are in need of assistance finding an organization to partner with for your hours, please stop by Campus Ministry and they can help get you signed up!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation
Get ready! May 17th is our Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon at East Catholic – an event always so generously supported by all of you! We have the opportunity to show our amazing teachers and staff how grateful we are as a community for all that they do for our students. We are looking for contributions of time (we need volunteers the day of the event), as well as talent, and/or treasure (food, $5 and $10 gift cards, cash...).
If you prefer to give a monetary donation towards the cost of supplies for the event, those are also welcome in any amount! Please put in an envelope with your name on it to the attention of Amy Roach/Teacher and Staff Appreciation and drop off in the school office or send via Venmo (@ECHSEAGLES - MAKE SURE to put “Appreciation Luncheon” in the “What’s it for?” description since this is the school’s general Venmo account and will not get to the right place otherwise). We would like all gift cards or monetary donations by Thursday, May 9th to allow time for assembling the gift bags.

Project Graduation Volunteers Needed!
Thank you to all who have signed up to help make Project Grad a successful event for our Seniors! We are still looking for some additional adults who are willing and able to be a part of the magic in putting this night together.
On Tuesday, May 21st from 6:00pm-10:00pm seniors will attend Project Graduation at the Pine Brook Club (252 Forest Lane, Glastonbury, CT 06033).
If you are available to help with set-up and decorations, chaperoning the event, and/or clean up, please use the SignUp Genius link below to volunteer. Most seniors do not want their parents there for the party, so we are asking underclassmen families to help!
