Since January 2023, I’ve belonged to a subscription service called Consecrate for Women in Ministry. It’s similar to other subscription boxes that provide monthly surprises in a box: makeup; wine, coffee, or tea; there are even subscription boxes for underwear. But this one is curated for women in ministry and each month I get a box with small goodies in it like stickers or cards that celebrate and honor independent artists; or something eco-friendly to inspire us to better care for the earth; or tea, a candle, a book.
This subscription is a gift from you, the congregation, who generously provided a cash gift at Christmas time. Thank you! Each time I open my monthly Consecrate box, I give thanks for the wonderfully generous and loving congregation I am blessed to work with.
This month’s box included a small deck of cards called “The So Loved Deck.” Each tiny square card is beautifully decorated and has a short quote reminding the reader how much they are cherished by God. Today I put the little easel that came with the deck next to my computer, and I drew a card to place on it for today’s devotion.
“Jesus Loves Me This I Know.” It seemed too simple. I thought I needed a different card. I turned it over and the message said, “When nothing makes sense, when there are more questions than answers, and when life feels like too much, this little tune reminds our hearts of what matters. Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak, but he is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so. Sing this to yourself or someone else as a reminder of your belovedness”
So I did. I sat in my office by myself and sang it over and over again.
I learned this song as a young child in Sunday school. Maybe you did too. Sunday school at Holy Trinity in Lakeview begins soon, September 16. Children young as 4, and adults too (2nd Sundays) are invited to join in on the fun. Come play and learn with others about your belovedness. Maybe we’ll even sing to each other.
