Deb McLoud, Breakthrough’s Executive Director, is gearing up for her eighth and final Breakthrough summer. Deb plans to retire in September, so the search for Breakthrough’s next Executive Director is underway! Stay tuned for plans to celebrate Deb’s Breakthrough tenure.

Breakthrough Manchester at The Derryfield School is celebrating 35 years of students-teaching-students, which not only prepares younger scholars for college success—it also cultivates the next generation of educators and leaders. We are looking for a bold, equity-driven visionary who will:

Inspire and develop staff, students, and Teaching Fellows
Strengthen community partnerships and expand impact
Lead with both heart and strategy

As one of 25 affiliates in the Breakthrough Collaborative network, this role offers the opportunity to lead a high-impact organization at the intersection of education, leadership development, and social change. This is more than a leadership role—it’s a chance to transform lives and shape the future of education in Manchester and beyond.

Clap In! Clap Out! Ceremony

Monday, June 22, 1:00-3:15

Join us for our fifth annual ceremony celebrating our Breakthrough Scholars! We will be welcoming and “clapping in” our new class of rising 7th graders and celebrating and “clapping out” our high school and college graduates. The ceremony runs from 1:00-2:00, followed by an ice cream social!

There is nothing we love more than sharing our Breakthrough Spirit! Please join us for a summer morning to experience Breakthrough’s students-teaching-students mission in action. Get a sneak peek into the lives of Breakthrough Students and Teaching Fellows. Kick off your morning with cheers and visit a class or two. Join us at 7:45 to cheer our Scholars off the bus and stay as long as you like. You will leave inspired and energized!

Greater Manchester Chamber Member Spotlight!

Wednesday, July 29

In partnership with The Derryfield School and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Breakthrough will host an informational session about our 35-year history in Manchester, followed by lunch in the Matarese Dining Commons at The Derryfield School, and tours of Breakthrough’s home at The Derryfield School. SUMMER JOB OPPORTUNITY: OPERATIONS COORDINATOR!

Looking for a dynamic and leadership-focused college student to support the planning, coordination, and daily operations of Breakthrough's summer program. In collaboration with program leadership, you will help design and implement events such as leadership training, family conferences, and college visits, while also supervising program assistants, coordinating volunteers, and substitute teaching when needed. Ideal candidates are organized, proactive, and committed to educational equity, with strong communication skills and a passion for mentoring and supporting students from underserved communities on their path to college. Homestays Needed!

We have some amazing Teaching Fellows from across the country! Get to know one of them from June 7 to August 7! Hosting Breakthrough Teaching Fellows is a great experience and not a heavy lift. The young adults drawn to work in Breakthrough’s summer program are engaging, smart, and responsible college students. Our Teaching Fellows are well-vetted and kept very busy - but not too busy to water plants or feed your pets if you might be away! A huge thank you to all of our Scholars, Teaching Fellows, and guests for bringing their positive energy and competitive spirit to make Breakthrough’s 9th annual "Are You Smarter Than a Breakthrough Student?" another success! Kudos to Primmer Postgrads for securing the trophy for a third time!

We are so grateful to our community partners and corporate sponsors, as well as the generous in-kind support of Southern New Hampshire University, for making this event such a success. The evening raised over $63,000 to support Breakthrough’s 35th summer of students-teaching-students!!! 📚🍎
