OCTOBER 2026 DWCS NEWSLETTER

Hello, Friends ~

Once a New Englander, always a New Englander... even after 40+ years of living in South Florida. This Mainer took the photo above from my brother's back deck in Randolph, New Hampshire, a few years ago. It is a poignant reminder of my favorite time of year up there, and foliage season will peak in a couple of weeks after several not-so-spectacular years! All predictions point to Mother Nature making up for that in a very big way this year.

It's also time for us to head to our 16th Mortgage Bankers Association conference in Chicago Oct. 10-14. mPoweringyou26 is all day on Sat., celebrating 10 years of support for Women in Real Estate Finance. Then #MBAAnnual26 runs Sun.-Wed. with the nation's largest gathering of real estate finance professionals. Attendees: Be sure to check the event schedule to arrange a 15-minute LinkedIn Profile Review and receive immediate edits for improvement! We look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and meeting new industry experts. Special thanks to Kimberly Newell, VP MBA Meetings & Sales, and our sponsor, Arch Mortgage Insurance Company (Arch MI), for making our participation possible. We will see you soon!

In this issue

  • LinkedIn Tips
  • Networking Calendar
  • October Spotlight
  • US Veterans savings

Then back to South Florida for several local networking events - check the Follow Debbie calendar for a list of my favorites. Need help with best practices for business networking? I've literally 'written the book': Networking from the Ground Up - Planting Seeds in a Digital Landscape. Grab it from Amazon, and if you like it, a review will get you special dibs on my second book coming out in 2027!

From Mel Robbins:

"Knowing what you need to do to improve your life takes wisdom. Pushing yourself to do it takes courage."

Wishing everyone a happy and safe October!

LinkedIn Tips and More

TIP 1 - MAKE A NOTE RIGHT ON THE PROFILE

If you've been on LinkedIn for a while, you may remember the convenience of being able to make a Note right on the connection's profile - an easy way to remember how you met, for instance. They removed that long ago, but now it's back! It's under the name/headline: Look for Highlights > Private note to self.

TIP 2 - LINKEDIN LATELY

The frequency of posts about AI has been literally exhausting - so many experts offering 'best practices'! It reminds me of when LinkedIn Coaches (like me) were first becoming popular. I will say now what I've said in the past about making choices: Do your research, as there are many AI platforms now, and you want to acknowledge being a beginner if that's what you truly are. AI is a terrific tool, and many platforms target power users. From Forbes Advisor, you may want to check The Best AI Certification Programs when vetting your choices.

TIP 3 - NEED TO KEEP UP WITH THE LATEST?

I like being close to other LinkedIn advocates, especially when they share my mindset of, 'There is plenty of business for everyone.' It makes the work more interesting and builds deep camaraderie. I strongly suggest you follow these experts and pay attention to their posts: Kevin D. Turner, Jeff Young, Mic Adam, and John Espirian.

TIP 4 - I'D LIKE TO KNOW!

Share a challenge with me that you have with LinkedIn in general or something specific on the platform. I will address it in our November Newsletter LinkedIn Tips. Question for Debbie

SPECIAL REQUEST

I'm seeking opportunities to be a podcast guest in 2027! LinkedIn and networking go hand in hand. My expertise with both topics may be of interest to your audience - thank you for your help! Email Debbie

OCTOBER SPOTLIGHT

I was introduced to a 20-year-old local nonprofit I hadn't known about, and I joined shortly after. Common Ground Community Development focuses on giving back to the local community through a range of services:

  • Music & art lessons and classes
  • Workshops and events
  • Community, business, and nonprofit partnerships
  • Weekly business referral group (Tuesday mornings - see Follow Debbie)

A great opportunity is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 3, to experience this amazing organization. They are celebrating their 20th Anniversary with a free, family-friendly celebration at their Lake Worth location on Saturday from 1-3 pm. LOTS of activities to enjoy, and I'll see you there! For more info, a Gala is also planned for Sat. Oct. 17th - info available at the same link. Join me and see what a wonderful, community-minded group looks like!
