Introducing the Association for Comparative Economic Studies Affiliate Network
Dear members and friends of ACES,

For the last several years ACES has taken steps to expand its network and its professional activities, from introducing the annual Dissertation Fellowship in 2020 and Summer School in Political Economy in 2022 to presenting paper sessions on diverse topics at the ASSA Annual Meetings and offering travel stipends to encourage in-person collaborations. To better reflect this growth and expansion into new directions and fields, ACES is pleased to announce the ACES Affiliate Network, which reimagines our traditional membership model and removes financial barriers to entry.

The ACES Affiliate Network is free to join and includes many of the benefits members have always enjoyed:

  • Access to our ACES mailing list, where we share news of fellowships, calls for papers, calls for applications, and other meaningful opportunities.
  • Voting rights in our elections and on ACES policy, such as board member appointments or bylaw updates.
  • Eligibility to serve on the ACES Executive Board.
  • Eligibility to submit papers for consideration for ACES panels at the ASSA Annual Meetings.
  • Eligibility for Association prizes
  • Invitation to our annual ACES Meeting and Reception at the ASSA Annual Meetings.

Our expanded network includes current and previous members, Summer School applicants and alumni, Dissertation Fellowship recipients and applicants, presenters in ACES panels, members of our editorial boards, and other colleagues. It is free to join and free to leave at any time.

Those who would like to receive digital or physical copies of the two ACES publications may do so by continuing to pay their annual dues each year: a reduced $50 rate for electronic access or $75 for physical journals. People who have paid for 2024 (and beyond) will keep this benefit for the length of their paid membership. Comparatively few members have opted to receive physical journals in recent years, and since many scholars already have digital access through their institutions, this electronic access benefit is seldom used.

We believe this new model will more accurately reflect the engagement ACES has in its paper sessions, its Summer School, its Fellowship, and its other academic activities, while furthering growth in new and exciting directions.

If you are receiving this email, you're already in! If you know of colleagues or students who may be interested in joining us, please direct them to our "Join" page to get on the list.

We thank you for your continued support, and welcome any feedback, questions, or concerns, you may have.

Sincerely,

ACES Leadership
