Conversations at the Edge of Hope: Collapse –
Why Climate is Just the Tip of the Iceberg
May 13
| | Led by MW member David Weiss, these conversations reflect Merging Waters’ commitment to bring our values of mindful interdependence, authentic curiosity, and courageous love to the very challenging topic of climate crisis. This month David will discuss the “Bio-Physical Drivers of Collapse”: the natural forces (much larger than simply a warming climate) that are now conspiring to make Collapse inevitable. Our work “at the edge of hope” goes far beyond this, but it begins from this place. The text from last month’s presentation, “Collapsing … Toward Joy?” is a good introduction to this month’s challenging discussion. “Conversations at the Edge of Hope” meets second Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm in Room 7 (lower level) at UCCNB. Join us on May 13, on site or online in our Zoom room. Contact David (drw59mn@gmail.com) with questions. RSVPs are welcome, but not required | | Volunteer at SACA on May 17 | | |

Info and registration at From Fork to Forest. | | UUA General Assembly Delegate | | |
Would you like to take part in shaping the future or our Unitarian Universalist denomination? The annual meeting of the Unitarian Universalist Association is coming up June 18-22 and Merging Waters has spots for 2 delegates to participate in the General Business Sessions and vote on behalf of the congregation. Delegates can attend in person or virtually.
General Sessions, guided by co-moderators Rev. Meg Riley and Charles Du Mond, are where the essential business of the Unitarian Universalist Association unfolds. Open to all via live streaming, these sessions provide a platform for discussing, shaping, and advancing the shared mission and values of the UUA. From voting on key issues to hearing reports from Association leaders, the General Sessions reflect a spirit of
collaborative leadership and commitment to Unitarian Universalist principles. Join us in witnessing and participating in the impactful work that drives our faith forward.
Would you like to learn more about being a delegate for Merging Waters? Please contact Katie Johnson, Kathy Burek, or Rev. Krista.

| | May Worship Theme: Imagination | | |
"Imagination’s great gift is improvement. At least that is what we’re taught. Its deep magic lies in the way it can reshape our reality. We are urged to imagine the world we dream of. A world with more justice. More peace. More love. From that, a mysterious magnetism arises, a
magnetism that pulls our imperfect present into an improved future. Imagination moves usforward. It makes our world - and us - better.”

BOOK: The Last Girl : My Story of Captivity and My Fight Against the Islamic State by Nadia Murad. Published in 2018. 320 pages.
“The Last Girl” is the story of Nadia Murad, a young Yazidi woman who was kidnapped by ISIS and forced into sexual slavery. The terror that ISIS brought to Murad, her family, and her community is barbaric. Murad educates readers about Yazidi history, and how it is defined by its values, community, and its traditions. Unfortunately, it was those same values left the insular Yazidis so vulnerable to an ISIS attack. Murad isn’t just “telling” readers her story, but she is narrating a genocide that she happened to be a part of. Murad never lost her will or her strength, which allowed her to be a Nobel Prize-winning activist.
