Praying for Good Government — The Wisdom of Derek Prince
Our purpose is to pray for good government. We do so in an increasingly hostile political environment, where the pursuit of power and the conduct of politics seem to move ever farther from the principles and teachings of Jesus. Into this environment comes the remarkably relevant biblical reasoning of Derek Prince.
Derek Prince (1915–2003) was a British-born Christian Bible teacher, author, and international minister, widely known for his teaching on prayer, spiritual warfare, biblical prophecy, Israel, and the authority of Scripture.
Born in Bangalore, British India, to British parents, Prince was educated at Eton College and Cambridge University, where he studied classical languages and philosophy. During World War II, while serving in the British Army, he experienced a profound conversion to Christianity through his encounter with Scripture. That experience redirected his life from academic philosophy to Christian ministry.
He subsequently served as a missionary, pastor, author, and Bible teacher, reaching audiences across denominational and national boundaries.
This week, I invite you to listen prayerfully to five lessons from Derek Prince on praying for good government. His teaching on the subject, first published in 1970 and now available in recorded form, is grounded in biblical principles that transcend political parties, personalities, and generations.
More than half a century later, these teachings remain profoundly relevant to our nation and to our assignment in prayer. Prince reminds us that our responsibility is not merely to observe, criticize, or attempt to influence government through human means, but to seek God's intervention through humble, faithful, and persistent prayer.
Our assignment is not to advance a political agenda. It is to seek God's will for those who govern and for the people they serve.

We hold the principles of an old promise— 2 Chronicles 7:14
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
