Imaginative God

Liturgy for Trinity Sunday

Hearing your whisper,

creation tingles with anticipation,

knowing that goodness and wonder

are your heart’s desires.

Listening to your instructions,

the universe shimmers with delight

and all creatures fall down

and worship you.

Imaginative God,

you are as close

as the early-morning breeze.

God spoke,

and you ran forth

to sprinkle the heavens with shimmering stars;

you poured the waters of grace

into the hollows of the earth

so that all life might emerge.

Our Summer Sundays will begin this Sunday, May 31, and run through August 9. During those weeks we will have a single service at 9:30 a.m. with an adult Sunday School class at 8:30 a.m. through June. (See Sunday School announcement). On Sundays, May 31 through June 28 worship, all children through first grade will be invited to continue their worship with a time of play in Frampton Fellowship Hall. Older children are encouraged to remain with families for worship.

Farewell Celebration for Ashley Brown Sunday!

This Sunday, May 31, in Frampton Fellowship Hall following 9:30 worship, we will celebrate Ashley Brown’s three outstanding years of service as our Pastoral Resident! Don’t miss this chance to thank Ashley and wish her well before she leaves New Orleans next month to begin a new chapter of ministry.

Webinar with Global Mission Partners

The Presbyterian Church (USA) is hosting a webinar “Global Mission Partners Speak: Are We Listening?” this Wednesday, May 27, at 2 p.m. via Zoom. The webinar is hosted by Universidad Biblica Latinoamericana. Speakers include missionaries from San Jose, Costa Rica; Cairo, Egypt; and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Find the registration link on our Global Ministry page.

Mahjong Monday

New Adult Sunday School Class

FAITH250

May 31 - June 28 | Phifer Library

Faith250 is a program that invites faith leaders and communities across the country to form clusters of congregations to act as sacred spaces for listening to one another, clarifying our shared civic values, and celebrating our hopes for America.

  • May 31: What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? Frederick Douglass
  • June 7: Statue of Liberty: The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus
  • June 14: The Declaration of Independence
  • June 21: America the Beautiful
  • June 28: The Gettysburg Address

Thank You, Michael!

Our great thanks go out to Michael O'Keefe for serving as our Wednesday Night Out reservations host for the last four years! Michael has been a SCAPC member for nearly 40 years, having served as an elder multiple times, dedicating his time and leadership to the Personnel, Finance, and Stewardship Committees, as well as teaching many Sunday School classes for both adults and youth over the years. Michael is retiring his position as WNO host this fall and we hope he and Mary Lou will continue to join us every Wednesday - wouldn't be the same without you both!

Meet the Organ

Jump into your SUMMER (Worship) SHORTS! As part of our Worship Short series, Steven Blackmon will host two “Meet the Organ” programs following worship on June 14 and June 21 at 11 a.m. Seating is limited so please sign up early on the SCAPC app or on our organ webpage. Also save the date for our annual “Hymn Sing” Worship Short on July 12 at 5 p.m. in Frampton Fellowship Hall.

Where Do You See God this Summer?

Whether you’re spending your summer in New Orleans or you’re out and about across the world, we want to hear where you’ve seen or experienced God! Send us a postcard or bring one to church and we’ll share them with each other on the bulletin board in Frampton

Fellowship Hall. Stop by the board this summer and check out how the spirt is moving us!

Mail to: 1545 State St., NOLA 70118.

SCAPC 101

Our next SCAPC 101 will be held on Sunday, June 7, following 9:30 worship in the Phifer Library. This class is designed as an orientation for new members and visitors interested in joining our church, or for anyone wishing to learn more about SCAPC! We will talk about our basic beliefs as Presbyterians, the history of SCAPC, and how you can get involved in its ministries. Learn more in the meantime by visiting our membership page.

Sympathy

Our sympathy is extended to Beth Poe on the death of her husband, Joe Poe, who passed away on Saturday, May 23. We will communicate service details as they become available.

Broadway Night

What a night! The finale of our Wednesday Night Out program year was SCAPC's annual Broadway Night by our Chancel Choir and soloists. With hits from Broadway shows new and classic alike, as well as other songs ranging from heart-rending to ridiculous, the singers performed to a sold-out crowd and countless ovations!

Rachel Ricks, Meg Frazier, Philip Ricks, and Director Steven Blackmon perform a 16th-century style "Stayin' Alive."

Betsy Uschkrat performs a number from the Broadway hit Jekyll and Hyde.

Thank You, WNO Volunteers!

Special thanks go out to our WNO Kitchen Krewe (shown here: Caitlin Wallace-Rowland, Matt McCann, Christina Carlisle, Mona Bond, Amy Kehlenbach, Karen Donaldson, and Arden Weiser) and nursery sitters (shown here: Katie Brendler, James and Ashlin Murphy, and Grace Fleshman)!
