Sarasota Market Spotlight

Cherokee Park: Charm Meets Modern Luxury

Cherokee Park is a thriving community that combines historic charm with modern luxury. Situated along Sarasota Bay, this peaceful enclave offers more than just a place to live; it is a welcoming and vibrant neighborhood.

A Rich History: Cherokee Park's roots trace back to the 1920s when J.C. Brown developed it during Sarasota's land boom era. His vision for a neighborhood with homes in 'Spanish, Moorish, or Italian styles of architecture' wasn't fully realized; today, Cherokee Park boasts diverse architectural styles. From boom-time revival to post-World War II modern, the neighborhood's winding streets with majestic oak trees and lush landscaping showcase a rich past and a promising future.

The neighborhood is separated from Osprey Avenue by a stucco wall and gate posts with decorative tile work depicting a Cherokee rose. Brown built the wall, gate posts, interior streets, and his own home, the Cherokee Lodge (pictured above) before Sarasota's real estate market crashed in 1927. He also created the classic layout — parallel streets with a central boulevard and median that head straight toward the bay.

Prime Location, Community, and Lifestyle: Cherokee Park is one of Sarasota's oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods—a true 'West of the Trail' oasis. Located just south of downtown, it offers easy access to cultural and recreational activities, beautiful beaches, Morton's Gourmet Market, excellent restaurants, and high-end shopping.

This community has parks and green spaces perfect for relaxation and leisurely walks. Cherokee Park is popular among young professionals and families who appreciate downtown living and top-notch schools like Southside Elementary and Sarasota High. It is also favored by doctors working at nearby Sarasota Memorial Hospital, recognized as one of Florida's top 10 hospitals.

Real Estate Spotlight: Cherokee Park offers a range of real estate options, from charming homes to spacious estates. Many properties are on tree-lined streets, while others feature private docks with direct access to Sarasota Bay, ideal for boating enthusiasts. Homes feature unique architectural details, roomy interiors, and beautifully landscaped yards.

If you are looking for a quintessential neighborhood, Cherokee Park is it. Its historic charm and modern conveniences make it a truly unique place to live. The sense of community here is unparalleled, fostering a warm and welcoming environment, and the proximity to downtown Sarasota offers the best of both worlds. Have I piqued your interest? Let me guide you through this wonderful neighborhood.

Crafting Excellence: Jonas Yoder Custom Homes Path to Sustainable and Resilient Home Construction

Jonas and Shane Yoder with Georgia

Jonas Yoder began his career in the home-building industry at a very young age. At 14, he started an apprenticeship at a family member's business, where he learned essential construction skills such as tile and flooring installation, framing, trim work, and masonry. This early experience laid the foundation for his future success.

At 18, Jonas embarked on his first independent project: building a custom home for a young couple in Sarasota. Utilizing the skills he had acquired, he undertook all the work himself. His dedication was further demonstrated as he continued to assist the couple with remodeling and modernizing their home over the years.

Jonas's dedication to quality and versatility is a personal characteristic and a cornerstone of Jonas Yoder Custom Homes, a family-run business. His sons, Shane and Travis, have joined the company and are crucial in project management and developing new homes' pricing, contracts, and specifications. Their involvement ensures that Jonas Yoder Custom Homes maintains a personal touch and a strong commitment to excellence, providing clients with high-quality standards.

Jonas Yoder Custom Homes is a home builder and a leading innovator in the industry. The company is dedicated to replacing traditional building materials with faster, more durable, and energy-efficient alternatives. They utilize Structural Concrete Insulated Panels (SCIP) to create their new product, custom-designed 'Super Shell' buildings, which they offer alongside traditional building techniques. This innovative approach, reflecting their forward-thinking strategies, is set to revolutionize the future of home construction. It offers excellent wind resistance, capable of withstanding winds over 200 mph, providing homeowners with peace of mind.

Seven years ago, my husband Vince and I met Jonas while interviewing builders to construct our home in Sarasota. After meeting him and seeing his work in the neighborhood, we immediately knew he was the one. As a real estate professional, I have continued working alongside Jonas on the construction of incredible new home projects, including my listings at 1515 Hillview Drive, 2317 Rose Street, and 1534 Harbor Place.

When asked about his favorite house style, he responded, "The Modern Meets Farmhouse. Its contemporary design has broad appeal, and its timeless style will likely always be relevant."

"Our work is always evolving. We construct 12 - 15 homes a year. Currently, two of our homes are Super-Shell projects. We are moving toward greater energy efficiency and increased durability with growth over the next decade; our goal is to build homes that will last not just 50 but 100 years or more."
