Staying on TOP of it - Volunteer Update

'Tis the season for giving back

As the holiday season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and the impact that kindness can make. At Tuscaloosa’s One Place, we see that impact every day through our incredible volunteers—people like you who give their time, talents and hearts to help local families thrive.

This season, we invite you to continue spreading that spirit of giving. Whether it's lending a hand at holiday events, wrapping gifts for kids or donating a Thanksgiving meal for a family in need, every act of service makes a difference.

Together, we can help ensure that every family in our community feels supported and connected during this special time of year. Thank you for helping us make the holidays brighter for so many families.

TOP Notch Volunteers

Our intern office is one of the most integral places inside the agency building. This is where learning happens in real time. Interns learn how to assess individuals with mental health screenings, identifying barriers and taking the time to understand individuals' stories.

Thanks to some awesome volunteers from the Capstone Center for Student Success, our intern office now has a fresh coat of paint and looks better than ever! With a comfortable environment, student interns can operate at their best and continue to help clients achieve their full potential and strengthen their families.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Buy a meal, feed a family

Most of us think of Thanksgiving as a time filled with family, friends and a great meal at the center of it all, but with food assistance suspended and tough financial times, this holiday can become a huge burden for some families.

Tuscaloosa's One Place, in partnership with Piggly Wiggly and Buffalo Rock Co., is helping to alleviate that burden for families and ensure they can enjoy a great meal this Thanksgiving.

For just $12 at your local Tuscaloosa Piggly Wiggly, you can provide a Thanksgiving meal for a family in need. Meals will be available for purchase until Nov. 23, or while supplies last.

Give the Gift of Joy This Holiday Season

The Holiday Heart program helps ensure every family Tuscaloosa’s One Place serves can experience the joy and magic of the season—and you can make that possible by volunteering to help ensure each child has something special waiting for them on Christmas morning.

Volunteers are needed to help sort donations and match gifts to children's wish lists.

We have two opportunities for groups to volunteer:

Dec. 6th from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Dec. 12th from 5 - 8 p.m.

If your organization is interested in volunteering, contact Annie Peoples at 205-462-1000 or apeople@tuscaloosaoneplace.org.

Uplift the community with the magic of the holidays

Join Tuscaloosa's One Place in setting up the annual Tinsel Trail located at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa. With over 200 live trees, it takes many hands and hours to make the trail shine! Volunteers are an integral part in bringing the holiday magic to life.

Sign up to assist in the setup of the annual Tuscaloosa's One Place Tinsel Trail the week of November 17th.

Why Volunteer

"It's not about how much we give, but how much love we put into giving."

Mother Teresa

The holiday season reminds us that the greatest gifts often come from the heart. Giving back, whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading kindness, has the power to lift spirits and bring hope to others. Every act of generosity helps strengthen our community and reminds families that they are not alone. When we give with love and intention, we create moments of joy that last far beyond the holidays.
