New Solar Rooftop System Unveiled in Northeast San Fernando Valley; Supplies Enough Green Power for 200 L.A. Homes

LADWP's Solar Feed-In Tariff (FiT) program provides businesses with an opportunity to sell green energy to the City of Los Angeles at a competitive price while helping LADWP to reach 100 percent clean energy by 2035. City of Los Angeles and LADWP officials, business leaders and community partners flipped the switch January 26 to unveil the latest FiT project--a new 1.5-megawatt solar array atop a warehouse in Panorama City, expected to generate enough carbon-free power for 200 homes. An example of a public-private partnership, the project also brings more solar to an underserved area that historically has not benefited from LADWP's clean energy programs.

“LADWP’s FiT program continues to deliver on its promise to put underutilized rooftops in our service area to use zero-carbon solar energy while improving quality of life for residents,” said Martin L. Adams, LADWP General Manager and Chief Engineer.

LADWP Plays Key Role in City's Plans to Accelerate

Electric Transit By the 2028 Summer Olympics

LADWP is a key partner in plans to expand electric vehicle charging and adopt new mobility technologies in transit, the Port and other sectors when the 2028 Summer Olympics come to the Los Angeles region. We are on track to meet L.A.'s next electric transportation milestones of 45,000 commercial EV chargers and 250,000 EVs in the City of Los Angeles by 2025, providing zero-emission transportation infrastructure for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The goals put forward by the Transportation Electrification Partnership — established by the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) — are positioned to firmly establish the metropolitan region as a leader in clean transportation, and send a message to the world around the policies, practices and partnerships needed to put this transformation into action.

LADWP's Charge-Up LA! program has incentivized the development of heavy-duty charging, which provides capital for charging infrastructure for electric fleets, providing a reimbursement of up to $125,000 per charging station. Since launching in 2019, the program has allocated about $15.5 million in rebates to help put 54 chargers in operation.

NYT: As Utility Bills Rise, Low-Income Americans Struggle for Access to Clean Energy

The New York Times looked at how the Biden administration has deployed various programs to try to increase access to clean energy. The story cited LADWP's implementation of our historic LA100 Equity Strategies Study to show how the energy transition will require broad participation from utilities and power providers as well as low-income and wealthier Americans. After conducting the study, LADWP increased rebates for used electric vehicles to as much as $4,000 for qualified consumers, and launched an effort to build and operate the city's own fast-charging network in low-income communities.
