COVID-19 RESOURCES
Bay Area's ICU Availability Decreasing Rapidly
The Bay Area's ICU availability fell under 15% this past week causing the State to enact the Regional Stay Home Order across the Bay Area. The order went into effect last night at 11:59PM. To further stress the importance of our actions, local hospitals are reporting approximately 1086 new cases daily and a total of 13 ICU beds remaining. Now more than ever it is important that we do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 because what you do this holiday season will determine if we have enough capacity in the coming weeks. Continue to wear a face covering, maintain a physical distance, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and refrain from gathering and traveling.

COVID Vaccine Distribution Underway
Through the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorizations, the first COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for use in the United States. COVID-19 vaccines are allocated to the County of Santa Clara by the State of California. These vaccines are available at no cost, but only eligible people are able to receive them. Personnel prioritized for first COVID-19 vaccine doses are people at risk of getting COVID-19 because they work in direct healthcare or long-term care settings. The County of Santa Clara's website outlines the tiers and what residents can receive the vaccine.

VIRTUAL EVENTS
Women in Tech: Then and Now
When it comes to the pioneers who built Silicon Valley, it wasn’t only men. Women made a significant contribution, and Los Altos History Museum brings these innovators to light in a webinar entitled “Women in Tech: Then and Now,” slated for Jan 14 at 5pm.

The presentation will focus on key technologies that advanced the progress of computing, the women who played roles in these advances and the status of their careers today. A panel of women technologists will discuss their experiences in the field and challenges they overcame. Nomi Trapnell, who was a female pioneer in software engineering and management, will lead the presentation, based on her work as a docent at the Computer History Museum.

This program is offered in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibit, “Rise Up! The Fight for Women’s Suffrage,” on display on the porch of the J. Gilbert Smith House through Feb 21, 2021.

The webinar is free to join, but registration is required on the Museum’s website at losaltoshistory.org/WomenInTech.
