April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, Adoption Option, Inc. encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making our community a better place for children and families.
By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote the social and emotional well-being of children and youth and prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.
Identifying protective factors helps parents find resources, supports, or coping strategies that allow them to parent effectively—even under stress. Protective factors are conditions or attributes that, when present in families and communities, increase the well-being of children and families and reduce the likelihood of maltreatment. There are six protective factors:
- Nurturing and attachment
- Knowledge of parenting and child and youth development
- Parental resilience
- Social connections
- Concrete supports for parents
- Social and emotional competence of children
Adoption Option, Inc, continues to deliver multiple programs that educate and partner with families to prevent maltreatment. For more information about child abuse prevention programs and activities during the month of April, and throughout the year, contact info@aoicw.org.
