April 1, 2022
Dear GLOBE community,
Our community is growing. And to keep pace with that growth, GLOBE’s Board of Directors is advancing a master planning process to design a “forever home” that will enable us to develop globally minded citizens for generations to come.
Our history of strong enrollment and sound fiscal management has positioned us well to initiate a long-term facilities planning process, and we’re excited to get started. We will re-imagine Lower Campus entirely to better serve our elementary school community, create more instructional space at Upper Campus to accommodate our growing middle school population, and identify how the recently acquired properties across from Upper Campus can best serve our emerging needs.
We are in the early stages of a multi-year plan, but we very much want to engage our community — parents, teachers, staff, neighbors, and yes, students! — in a conversation about the kind of facilities we want to create. Please join us for our April board meeting to learn more. We will also keep you apprised via email and invite you to share your input as we progress.
Of course, this exciting news comes on the heels of a number of HVAC challenges we are continuing to manage in our Lower Campus facility. Please know that we remain wholly dedicated to keeping students and staff safe and healthy in the short-term, while we bring our long-term vision to fruition.
Over the past several weeks, Prestige EnviroMicrobiology, Inc. conducted air quality testing and reviewed the results with us and our contractors from Hibernia Environmental; so far, we do not have any indication of safety concerns. We will continue to monitor the air quality with regular testing, and we will keep you apprised of any issues that arise.
Meanwhile, another team of external experts, comprising engineers (Barrett, Woodyard & Associates) and construction managers (Impact), has met several times to try to solve the underlying HVAC problem. Per their recommendations, we will continue our day-to-day efforts to minimize the risk of fungal growth with industrial-grade dehumidifiers. Over spring break, we will be seeking the installation of 220V electrical capacity in preparation for the installation of new AC units in the classrooms that need them. We are also exploring other investments that we can make in the short- and mid-term, including over the summer break, to minimize future risks and ensure a safe learning environment for our students and staff.
The path ahead will not always be an easy one, but it’s one that will give GLOBE an enduring home — a home where we can educate more and more students who will affect positive change in the world. We look forward to the future we can build together.
