Red Wing Arts will host the 15th annual Plein Air Festival this June, 2021.
Red Wing, which sits at the entrance to the Driftless Region, is a stunning place. The charming downtown, dramatic bluffs, rolling hills, vistas and winding rivers define the historic town. Last summer’s event garnered so much success (42 paintings sold!), community excitement and positive feedback. Red Wing Arts plans to give the artists and art appreciators the same opportunity this year to embrace and enjoy Red Wing’s distinctive attributes,
Featured Class
If you are among the selected Featured Class Artists you will be notified by May 15, 2021. Each registered artist will be asked to present 3 completed plein air paintings from the competition along with a quick paint piece. Your art will be displayed in the RWA Gallery for judging and will remain part of the exhibit through August 16, 2021.
$3000 in cash prizes will be awarded

$500 - 2nd Place
$300 - 3rd Place
$300 - Best Sense of Place
$200 -Alive with Watercolor
$200 - Alive with Oil
$200 - Alive with Pastel
$100 – Quick Paint – Artist Choice

Open Class Award of Merit

To apply for Juried Featured Class: Please submit by email to artcall@redwingarts.org three (3) recent plein air images along with your contact information.
Application fee is $45.00 and may be paid by phone, mail or on our web. Juried artists pay no additional participation fee. RWA members, please use the following discount “Apply” at checkout to receive your $5.00 discount.
The Featured Class is a juried Class. If you are not juried in as a Featured Class artist, you will be eligible to participate as an Open Class artist.
Open Class
Open Class Artists do not have to apply through the jury process. There is a $15 participation fee for Open Class artists. Open Class artist invited to participate in all artists events and can exhibit one of their completed plein air paintings. Art will be displayed in the RWA Gallery and will remain part of the exhibit which will end on August 16, 2021.
Participation Fee
Juried artist do not have to pay an additional participation fee (this is a change for 2021). Artists interested in participating in the open class, that did not submit an application to be juried, will be required to pay $15 .
