Wimpy Words Won't  Win

Many writing coaches emphasize one common strategy: Replace adverbs with strong verbs. Remove the "ly" words and show action instead. This technique uses fewer yet more powerful words. Hint: search your manuscript file for "ly" and consider edits like these:

keyboard_time_for_action.jpg
Weak: The kid quickly ran down the alley.
Strong: The kid jolted down the alley.

Weak: The highly inebriated man walked awkwardly out of the bar.
Strong: The drunk stumbled out of the bar.

Weak: The monkey excitedly climbed the tree.
Strong: The money scampered up the tree.

Win with action. Write with action verbs.

Gift to Kenya Library

From Virginia Beach to Hawaii to Kenya, Aria Vanir and the peaceful alien queen travel!

This month I donated autographed copies of the Mystical Aria novels to a colleague for her library in Kenya.

Jean Adero, Change Management Manager at Cox Automotive, received 22,000 books with support from Books For Africa in 2011. Then she and her sisters  converted a house in Kenya, that once belonged to their parents, into a library. In 2015, Adero opened Read Across Africa.

Adero expects to take the Mystical Aria books to Kenya in April.

Mystical Aria: Starship Diary (Vol 2)
New 5-Stars Review
Blast off and experience tween Aria's innermost thoughts when she shares her diary with complete authenticity. Aria's awareness expands as her diary pages unfold her adventure to the Rama ship where she is to finally meet Queen Supreme Nashata and her crew.

One will delight in Aria's observations, life lessons and remembrances of the values, learning social graces and how to work with others. Aria fully embraces adventure with eyes wide open and details her AHA moments and observations. As the reader, I felt that I was on the starship as an observer waiting to see the next action taken. I applaud Aria in her journey of ease and grace to navigate life in an ever expanding universe. I want to travel with Aria on her next adventure and can't wait to beam aboard. Thank you, Jean for the journey you shared.

Fun Facts About the Author
I spent Valentine's Day weekend with my mother in Virginia. While cleaning out my bedroom closet, I found a red velvet dress she had made in high school. She had crocheted fancy borders for the collar and sleeves. When I visited my aunt, she showed me a quilt she was making of scraps from clothes she had sewn for her family over the decades. My sister-in-law has knitted three rugs and several scarves for me.

Nothing beats the "Made by Family" brand.

Aria Vanir Speaks
Valentine's Day Afterward

Dear Diary,

What happens to the love after Valentine's Day?

On Valentine's Day, Mom and Dad go out to dinner unless Dad's on a SEAL mission. Mom gets roses and chocolate unless she's on a diet. Jackie, my big sister, sometimes gets Valentine's Day cards but she hides them in her dresser and I find them-accidentally, of course-when I sneak into her room to wear her clothes while she's at sports camp or away for the weekend.
